I didn't rate him all that high myself, before the EC2004. In fact, i wasn't sure why he was playing in the national team.

Then i started noticing how defensive midfielders work in modern football and i understood. If an opponent runs towards him with the ball, only one of the two will go past him: either the man or the ball, never both.

Why he did so crap at Leicester remains a mystery to me.

Difficulty to adapt to a different culture, morale, being called a flop quite soon in his stay there...

Those are some reasons that might account for it.

Same as why Argie AMC reject from Barça didn't make the grade there and shines in Villareal or why Argie DC ex-Roma didn't impress in Madrid.

Wolves - Premiership - Season 2018/19

Every penny of the £21m transfer budget is spent on 10 new players, as i look to strengthen the team and the backup available. In January, Arsenal buy yet another winger from me for a measly £15m. That's £55m Arsenal have given us in 3 seasons.

Unfortunately, it turns out to be money well spent. The Arse lead the table for most of the season, getting clear by as much as 5 points after Xmas. A win over them with 8 games to go brings us top, but we just can't last the pace. A couple of inexplicably dreadful home losses against lowly Fulham and mid-table Leeds cost us dearly. It's the first time i fail to retain the league title under FM.

A good reason for that could be our generally good form in Europe and the cups. In the CL, we top our group again, exacting revenge against Roma for last year's QF humping, breeze past our bogey team Liverpool (5-1 agg), beat Real 4-2 in extra-time in Madrid (6-3 agg) and face Bayern in the semis. My keeper (one of the four used this season, i seem to be cursed in this aspect of the game) goes on strike during the first leg and we subsequently lose 0-2, which was enough for the Germans to knock us out.

By ways of consolation, we win both domestic cups.

Lots of freebies arranged for the summer, the wage budget is gonna suffer even more. I'm gonna have a bit of a dilemma in case the AEK job becomes available, as i'd like to have another go at the Premiership - missing out on the tile to a team you've clean-sweeped really hurts.

EPL: 2nd W24 D6 L8 GD.78-30 P78.
LC Final: Wolves 2-0 Southampton.
FAC Final: Wolves 4-2 Chelsea.
CL Semis: Bayern 2-0 Wolves on agg.

Late night monster sessions suck. Apologies in advance for typos etc

Wolves - Premiership - Season 2019/20

A few quality freebies join in, and i also spend £26m on 3 players: A Spanish DC from Wigan who heals our permanent woes in the defence, a quality fullback from Boro and a winger D/DML from Liverpool - have a history with that fella: had missed out on him to some Conference club while at Albion, and 3 years later he was a regular for the Scousers and Poofland :o. At the same time, Yank ex-wonderkid and a Scot AMC make the jump to Liverpool for a combined £39m.

This time we mean business in the league: after an initial shock defeat at Old Trafford, we proceed to win 22 of the next 23 games, all but mathematically securing the title - which eventually happens on matchday 33.

We also encounter several deja-vus in Europe: we beat Roma twice in the group stage to condemn them to a lack-lustre UEFA Cup campaign, smash Chelsea and Lyon in the next knockout rounds to pair with Inter at the semis. Revenge is a dish best served cold . The Italians are punished for beating Albion so easily some years ago by losing 6-1 on agg. The final against Juventus was a tense affair more because of our level of finishing, but an early goal in each half gave us the edge. Champions League Winners.

Earlier, we'd blown our chance of a Quadruple by losing to Manure on penalties in the League Cup Final after a cracking match, and unfortunately we didn't do much better against Boro in the FA Cup final.

Looking to move, but chances are it won't be AEK. I've been wanting to dive to the Lower Leagues for a couple of seasons now, so i'll see what comes up this summer. Watch this space...

EPL: 1st W32 D3 L3 GD. 113-25 P99
LC Final: Manure 3-3 Wolves - Manure win 5-4 on pens.
FAC Final: Middlesborough 2-1 Wolves.
ECL Final: Wolves 2-0 Juventus.
