In my current save (currently early 2008) they are yet to win it. Bremen and Leverkusen (2x) are keeping them down well.

No preseason as such, as the German League Cup got in the way. Lost to Bayern in the semis.

A good start in the league saw us top after 4 games and I thought that things were going our way when 2-0 up away to Bayern after 20 minutes. Alas, they scored their third in the 75th minute .

Playing catch up for the first half of the season due to our involvement in European competition we played the last game before the break against Schalke; a win would see us head into January in 3rd place. A late Schalke equaliser meant we had to settle for 7th at the halfway stage, two points off 3rd spot. Bayern, in line with bookmakers expectations, are 13 points clear at the top.

Beat Club Brugge to enter the UEFA cup groups, where we drew Aston Villa, Glasgow Rangers, Grazer AK and CSKA Moscow. Lost 3-0 away to Villa and were dominating against CSKA when one of my players got sent off. We ended up losing 4-0. A 4-2 win away at GAK was followed by a 5-0 crushing of Rangers. This left us 3rd with 6 pts after all our games with everyone else needing to play one more. Villa with 7 pts were playing Rangers, who had 6. CSKA had 4 and GAK none. Only a Villa victory or CSKA failing to beat GAK would put us through.

I should have known not to trust the Austrians as CSKA won easily. Fortunately, Rangers lost and we qualified for the next round.

Best signing so far is an Egyptian FLC released by Roma, who has averaged just under a goal a game.

Knocked out of Europe by Anderlecht, 0-1 away 1-1 home. Grabbed 5th spot in the league to qualify for the Uefa Cup again. Egyptian FLC got 28 goals in total.

France beat Germany on penalties in the World Cup final.

2010/11
Progress, but ultimately frustrating. Knocked out of both doemstic cups by Bayern, we progressed to the quarters of the UEFA Cup, only to lose on away goals to the eventual winners, Athletico Madrid.

In the league, with one game to go, we held second spot; any title challenge had effectively been destroyed by the lack of a decent goalscorer. We had suffered only 5 defeats, but won only 16 of the other 28 games. Bayern were 20 points ahead and had won the league weeks ago.

So when Marseille came callling, I made the move - the main reason was I could see no way of overcoming Bayern in the next 5 or so seasons. Feucht drew their last game to drop to 4th, and out of the Champions league spots. Conversely, Marseilles overcame Monaco to leapfrog them into 3rd, and claim the last French Champions League place.

Bayern won the Champions League, defeating Chelsea on penalties.
