Time: I understood what you were saying, but not what you were calculating.

You said, you needed 5 points in 5 games to secure a playoff position.
You said, you grabbed only 2 points in those 5 games.
You said, you missed the playoffs by 8 points.

Okay, some maths:
You got only 2 instead of 5 points. So, in theory, you should have been 3 points short of a playoff place in the end.
But:
You say you missed by 8 points. So, to make up for those 8 points, you would have had not to grab 2 draws but 8 points more instead. So 10 points in the final 5 games.

Some of those last 5 games were against promotion rivals, I lost them all meaning the playoffs were more points away

Okay, say the team that got into the playoffs (8 point lead right now) won against you in a direct match. If you had won instead, you would have had 3 points more, and they would have had 3 less. Still they'd be 2 up front. Although you had those 5 vital points you mentioned.

Anyway, I don't want to be picky. ;-)
