I was looking around for reviews of Pro Evo 2008 (thinking of getting it for my brother for X-mas) and while on hookedgamers found this review for FM08:

This was an October review and the first that I've come across that (rightly or wrongly) slated FM.
Opinions?
I can't disagree with most of what he has detailed but perhaps when he wrote the article he wasn't:
1) aware there have been not 1 but 2 beta patches available
2) aware a full patch is available soon
3) that the process of SI release a patch after game release is a common place activity year on year once the game is subject to scrupelous review from its high demanding public
An interesting, mostly accurate but not fully balanced review...in my humble opinion
See this is what I don't get. I wasn't going to get FM this year as I was told it was pretty much the same game and I was in year 2020 (sumamt like that) with the same club.
But then I was given Champ Man to review and thought i'd get this years FM and compare them.
Well, I really like this years game. It's not the same. There are new features such as the pre and post match analasis, the player interaction such as their thoughts on the newly promoted captain and there are more (as you all know) I honestly think it is really good.
Yes I probably am a fan boy, but being in the middle of a champo man review and using my "journalism" head I honestly think this game is awesome. Might have something to do with being forced to play champ man which to be honest, is poor!
I also haven't really experienced too many bugs. Had 3 players sent off in the space of 3 games, but too be fair, it was Jermaine Beckford and David Prutton!

Slightly off topic - I've had just one sending off and I always close down and tackle hard in any opposition playmaker....and thats playing with Pompey and Sully Muntari!!

the reviewer probably received a pre-release copy before the patches were out. it's the reviewer's job to primarily review the boxed version as bought by the punters, that's how every other game on the market is reviewed and there's no reason SI should get preferential treatment over others....

Agreed - It would be good if he could write a follow-up based on a new game start using the full patch when released
If anything the review is being kind, he didn't mention things like "closing down" ie. players not doing what their told, absurd transfer fees, unrealistic board expectations, I could go on. He could have written 2 more completely different reviews of other complaints surrounding this dreadful excuse for a continuation of the series.
They probably never played it enough to see all those "bugs".
Closing down is not a bug. They just changed how it works....change your settings if you want your guys to chase the ball all over the field and try and tackle at every chance.
