Closing down is not a bug. They just changed how it works....change your settings if you want your guys to chase the ball all over the field and try and tackle at every chance.
It is a bug, SI admitted as much. They tried to fix it in the Beta patch but it remains for top tier clubs. So basically, you're talking out your arse.

Interesting read- Im hooked on FM08 but agree wholehearteadly with the comment about finances- why should we be penalised if we keep within budget?

I dont agree that we should run the finances though.

Oops- I also agree that the new features are pretty sparce or really just neat new touches- and tbh if it wasnt for a radically revamped match engine being(once patched) a joy to behold, then I dont think I would be as hooked.

He probably could but we'd end up with

"Two words.... very pathetic"

And white Raven, I only play top tier clubs and closing down is working to a tee for me. Going up to 10 games without conceding whilst playing attacking formations, all thanks to my midfield anchors doing their jobs.

Well I was playing with Arsenal and my defenders were doing nothing to close down anyone - despite the settings. It was quite ridiculous.

Just reward for playing with Arsenal Well, I use three formations depending on circumstances. Most often it's a 4-4-2 diamond which is pretty much all attack. Hargreaves and Carrick rotate the dm role and are getting stuck as if I was paying them to do it! then I have a 4-3-3 defensive, two dms and it's the same, they're in there all the time..

I usually don't have my defenders close down too much, prefer the dm to get at them from behind and the defenders contain them.

New FMs often seem to hit me in the same way - i.e. I seem to find it hard to get into the new one, with various bugs so irritating I can't enjoy it (e.g. my first match in Serie A, I asked one of my DCs to specific mark AC Milan's lone striker, half time we were 0-4 down and he had scored all of them).

The problem though is that there are generally enough new features that I do like that it kind of spoils my enjoyment of continuing playing an older version because it feels too much like going backwards and missing out on features.

That said, last weekend I went back and played a whole season of CM 01/02 again which rolls back the biggest ever change in the CM/FM series so maybe I'll just accept I hate FM 08 until a proper patch is out and continue my FM 07 games!

Pretty scathing tbh

This was an October review and the first that I've come across that (rightly or wrongly) slated FM.

Opinions?
I completely agree wiith him!
