In my game, Essien became an English citizen (after the required 5 years) and so did Kalou but Shevchenko didn't get it, even though he joined the same time as Kalou.

I'm playing FM07(after the patch); is the citizenship thing selective?

some players dont bother takingit. its not compulsory or anything

As Cudman said, not all players choose to take it up.

Also though, Schevchenko spent a lot of time in Italy playing for AC Milan. Does he have Italian as his second nationality already? If he does, then he is already an EU national, meaning he has no need to take up the nationality of another. I've never seen a player in FM take up citizenship of an EU county if they already have citizenship of an alternate EU nation.

Nah, he doesn't have it. That's why I asked, because they refused to issue him a work-permit when his contract ended
