This is a 442 tactic, and by my own standards its not an attractive tactic, just an efficient one. I depended on this tactic to get me out of the lowest tiers of conference football and into the championship. I have two versions of the same tactic, at home I tend to move the wingers into AMR/L slots with farrows and turn both the MCs into the defensive minded MCs. To do that I just copy over the defensive settings of one MC into the other. But I'm not going to talk about the home one, I'm just focusing on how I play away. Its up to you how you want to go from here, as these are afterall templates for you to use and abuse.
The formation looks like any bogstandard 442...only difference is it uses longfarrowed MR/ML and shortbarrowed fullbacks.

Defense
The idea here is to close down and deny crossing chances and keep the AI to trying from distance. You will need decent defenders to do this, if you have a poor side then capitalise on getting players with exceptional physical talent. Defensively I'm happy with its performances, it really is the reason why I've managed to get my side this far. The upside is I can keep a clean sheet, the downside is sometimes I take too long to score, I do manage good wins, but they are not spectacular. I have other tactics that I may turn to when I need the result one of which is a mild variation of this, by making it into a 424 which is very easy to do, and I will also leave that up to the user.
This was my away from home tactic. It got me the results I wanted.
Defensively its proved quite robust for
us. As you can see it does not concede a lot of goals.
Yeah but it certainly took a while, when i was in conference south I didn't have it too easy..
Only just getting promoted from the division.
When in league one I started experimenting with the variations of this tactic, including using targetmen, fast/fast combos upfront and also setting the wingers to more advanced positions. They all worked. I think they worked for me because this formation is so hard to break down, having said that I'm not saying you won't concede, you will sooner or later, and you best find out why. For me it was due to set piece vulnerablities and really hard and physical games and my players getting beaten by better pace and passing.
League 1
Will this tactic work for you? Honestly I don't know, I would suggest taking it away and trying it with your team. Remember: This tactic is made for you to exploit wingplay. So you will need really fast wingers and a good dribbling whiz in the left strikers slot. If you don't have those kind of players, then you can still try it out, but it may not work. The goals that come from this tactic are really very simple. They come from crosses or throughballs that beat the AI, there are also goals that come from defensive errors. The setpiece corner routine was set up for my players, there is a short corner option that i use for a "Ronaldhino" kind of player.
If you plan to use the tactic, use it as a base for your own and let me know how it goes, defensively especially.
