(Apologies if this is my 2nd thread, the other didn't seem to show up)
I've come to the conclusion that tactics on FM are pointless. Heres why:
I've played Football Manager since FM 05 and on FM 05 and FM 06 used to consider myself a very good tactictian and was quite good. Have brought FM 07 and now am worse than useless.. simply no success at all really. I've been happy to keep trying and am not your average "I'm useless at the game so FM is rubbish" as I enjoy the challenge but what I was to discover is very disheartening indeed.
A friend of mine managed southampton.. Got promoted, came 4th in his second season and won the league in his 3rd. When he was playing his game - suprised at his somewhat easy success considering FM 07 is his first FM I asked to look at his tactics... amazingly he replied "how do I find that screen?" I showed him and quite shockingly the tactics were untouched and all on default.. player instructions/team instructions and even training (not essential I know).
Another friend who was 4 seasons in with Athletico has won the league twice (another season finished unbeaten but finished 2nd) and also two champs league titles to his name - intrigued I asked about his tactics (wasn't going to copy as thats almost cheating
imo) and he also screen printed and has never touched tactics!!!
After these discoveries and many hours fiddling with tactics I've realised it's just been a complete waste of time. I could leave them all at default and go on to win alot of trophies but that just takes the fun out of the game
IMO as part of the game is trying to tactically outwit the opposition.
Before anyone says they'll be found out and will start to lose/they'll come crashing down they are now 7-9 seasons in respectivley and still no sign of slipping up - and considering alot of players don't get that far into the game; default tactics look the way to go!
People could claim I'm really dreadful and the tactics I'm using are worse than default but after my success on previous games - I highly doubt that, alot of people I know who get involved tactically also have struggled with this verion. Also the fact that default tactics brings so much success kinda makes that theory flawed aswell.
What are peoples thoughts on this?
