I have had no success whatsoever at FM without using a 6"4 giant up front with TM to head on. It kind of limits my tactics.

tried switching to the default 442 attacking when i was struggling - won 5 in a row after the change

it will be pretty annoying if the deafult tactics turn out to be more effective than my own tactics - gonna do some more testing

anyone else have any results like this?

no my 4-3-2-1 tactic which developed from my 4-2-3-1 was highly successful and solid - but now i cant use it as my FM wont install

Hate to disagree, Cleon, but no. You can create an awesome set of tactics, providing you respond in the right way at the right time and win with average players (as your own project shows), but to assume that one tactic will, in all circumstances and with all players, win you everything is naive in the extreme.

Unless, of course, you've created such a tactic, in which case my e-mail address is...

I personally think Cleon's project thread with Sheffield United shows how ridiculously unrealistic the game is and how tactical sensitivity is way too high at the moment.

I've found that after hours of nothing - forget the tactics and, like others have said, play a 442 normal - maybe just tweak the odd slider up and down whether your at home or away - with all the players set to their default as you'll find in the drop down "Set To" box ..

Pointless wasting time doing anything else really ..

How bizarre. After losing 3 in a row using my 4-4-2 I decided to go for the Standard 5-3-2 with Wing Backs and a Attacking Midfielder and have won 3 on the spin and no goals conceded.

Is there any point in using your own tactics when it seems I am playing a lot better with the Standard Set Up?

I wouldnt say there is no point in tactics, but I would say that there is far far too much emphasis on them now. Effectively, you're having to spend so much time on them now that the game is becoming boring to me and I feel its losing the attention of the more relaxed gamers who just want to, for want of a better phrase, "plug in and play".

For me the game has gone more for the tactics you set up, and tweak (stupid bloody word) and then *cringe* tweak again, and again, and again. You get my point..... than the actual players abilities. For example, Man Utd, Alex Ferguson could just pick his 11 players and not tell them anything, they'd go out and win 8/10 games. On FM, set them up with a 4-4-2 and normal instructions, without fiddling for 6 weeks, they'll lose at home to Fulham!
