I have looked throught countless posts on this issue but still I have yet to find a good answer. I know many of the forum users claim that Individual instructions DO NOT overide Team instructions, however there are some who thinks that it overides.
So I would like to seek help on this issue. I hope that there will be a good answer.
First, we will talk about mentality.
Mentality: If I put a striker to a mentality of 1 and team mentality to 20, what does this means? Cleon said that individual mentality affects the players instructions on the field, while team mentality affects the team as a whole. So the striker on a IM of 1, will play very deep, and because TM is 20, he will shoot on sight.
Is this true?
I have read somewhere that D-Line affects the positioning of the backline. Whether it is close to the halfway mark or deeper. However, if individual mentality affects the positioning of the players, this complicates things. A defender with IM of 1 and a D-line of 1, wont that make him play very very deep?
Closing down, Tackling, Creative Freedom, Passing: If Individual mentality affects positioning, while Team mentality affects the style of football(attacking/defensive passes etc) then how about these 4 sliders? I couldn't find a single post that mentioned the difference between individual and team instructions for these 4 sliders. Hopefully someone can answer this.
Thanks for everybody help and patience to read this and sorry for my english. Typing in a rush...

Individual Instructions VS Team Instructions Post #2
You know, I was confused about this too for a long time, but lately have come to conclusion that the individual mentality does not override the team mentality, but for everything else, the individual instructions do override the team ones.

Is there any proof or anything to back this up?
Seems weird when only the mentality does not overide.
I was using IM for every player until I got frustrated why I couldn't defend a lead or when I had 10 one on ones and could not even convert one. High possession and high passing rate but still I am losing the game.
I thought maybe is because the players all had their own playing mentalities, while one wants to attack, the other wants to defend.
Therefore, I changed to a global mentality with only certain key players on individual instructions. (eg: I am Real Betis, so I gave Juanito, Assuncao and Sobis IM)
Results-wise have improved TREMENDOUSLY, but my untrained eye could not catch any difference in the playing styles or positions etc.
Playing more games to discover more about the individual and team instructions.

Anyway, if u click on a player's individual instructions, and u hover the mouse above the words Mentality, Passing style etc, a box saying "tick to overide team instructions" appear.
I am quite convinced that individual instructions override team instructions after I noticed this.
Has anyone noticed this before? I have been reading alot of wwwfan, Cleon, Rashidi etc guides and they say that IM does not overide TM. So I hope that they can come in and answer my questions.
Thanks.

Individual Instructions VS Team Instructions Post #8
If the individual instruction is ticked, the player will use the equivalent team instruction. If it is ticked, then the player will follow this ticked instruction and ignore the team instruction.
That is to say, the player will do what you see on his individual instructions page - the values of those sliders, ticked or unticked, will be what the player is told to do.
Now: whether this is the case in all circumstances has been open to debate. But to repeat - SI intended individual to always override team instructions. The only exception to this is if you use 1 or 22 team mentality (ultra-defensive; all-out-attack), in which case every player will follow these mentalities. Again, this is what SI intended.
wwfan, I know, says IM overrides TM. Cleon beleives that there is a sort of tandem relationship between ind. mentality and team mentality, but that in all other cases individual overrides team instructions. I apologise to rashihi, but I've not read enough of his stuff to be able to claim what he believes.
In summary, to repeat for the umpteenth time - SI intended for, in all cases, individual instructions to override team instructions. The only debate I have noticed and remain less than 100% convinced on is the relationship between team and individual mentalities. I currently play on the assumption that individual overrides team, but I have not always done so.
