Tbh I think that the training module has been modified slightly so that you may have to spend more time with training than in previous versions. In earlier versions for example, I used to leave many of the squad on the same training schedule all season, and in some cases in FM08 you can still get away with this, but now it appears that depending upon what players you have at your disposal, you definitely need to man-manage more heavily with regards to training schedules.

For example, how do you train Ronaldinho? If you sit down and think about, and look at his capable positions, you soon realise that he needs a variety of training in order to at least maintain most of his attributes. Its practically impossible to bias one training area when you have such technically-gifted players, so you have to switch between alternate schedules in order to accomodate for this. The frequency of altering players training schedules is entirely upto you, but I've found that assessing training at the end of each month (or two months if you're lazy :p) and then re-adjusting individual schedules works well - the training attributes graph (with category dropdown, EG strength, aerobic, etc etc) is really useful here, as are coach assessments as to how a player is responding to his given training schedule.
