2005 - 2006 Season
Season 1 of St. Albans was a revolving door, as anyone who could chew gun and dribble at the same time as invited around for a look see. Eventually, however, a solid team emerged (as well as a decent Under-18 side) and the boys started to make a run for the top. Naturally, everyone discounted the team, and even the Assistant Manager scoffed at any pretentions.
The team knew it had a bit of magic in them as they managed to make it to the FA Cup 1st Round before losing 0-1 to Scarborough, and then the FA Trophy 1st Round before losing to York 0-1.
After that... the team just went on a run. English Conference South record-setting run, and ended up taking 37 league games without a defeat (27 overall after the York loss), en route to a 31-9-2 record, good for 99 points - 1 behind Weymouth.
Onto the playoffs.
First up - Docrester and game 1 saw a lovely 4-1 win before narrowly taking the series on 5-4 totals after Dorcester won game 2 by a 3-1 margin.
In the finals, it was Cambridge City, and the boys won 3-1 with the star striker netting down the hat-trick.
Promotion on a shoestring budget: final end of season salary was $6,475 p/w, with the top earner earning $600 - first f/t signing - with the rest earning no more than $250. Average wage was $119.
Hoping that in the Conference National, the owner will move the team from Semi-Pro to Professional, and open up that tight-wad wallet of his.
Solid season though. Some amazing surprises through and through.

This is a tight budget? It's all relative I guess, but I've got a wage budget of about 2.5K a week now, 55 average IIRC. That is almost half of what the board allows me, and still it's hard to make ends meet. Loving it though!
Read the guidelines a little bit better, and be back when you're three seasons in. Good luck.
