Okay; accepting your post at face value, I don't see where your problem is. You signed a player and got a gem. Other clubs want him and are prepared to splash the cash. It'll happen infrequently.

I would perhaps expected the board to intervene when the bid for £500k came in and strongly suggested you accept it, but this isn't a feature in FM (that I've seen).

I really don't think he's that good. Prior to setting his value to £500k, his default value was £22k. I think a transfer value of about ten times this the most I could reasonably expect.

I suppose there's a chance he may be a future superstar and I'll rue the day I let him leave.

Taking the question at face value, I believe we have discussed this before, and I don't think you'd find that many prepared to argue if you take the money and run.

It is an interesting case of "realistic" vs "making the game unnecessarily hard". I'm fairly sure we've discussed this before - have a search. Taipan's classic "this guy has 'I am good' stamped on his forehead" thread ought to be a decent starting point.
