Well here it is, the 3 season update:
Season 04/05
As previously quoted the first season was a good'en!
After Christmas, which is when the title race starts, things were looking good. Had a slight blip around Easter time but luckily it was the right time to have a ‘blip’!
We ended up back at the top of the league with Cambridge City 2nd for the final run in. Cambridge and Weston had been battling it out all season and it came to the final game of the season. We only needed the point from the final game which also would also send (can remember the team) the bottom place team we were playing down.
We Won! And Cambridge succumbed under pressure and lost. Pressure helped by boasting the confidence of the opposition that Cambridge were playing.
Rightfully Cambridge also won the conference play offs to Join Weston in the Conference National!!!
Season 05/06
Well…if we were relegation battlers for the promotion season. We are still relegation battlers for the Conference National Season.
Several Job offers had come in none which were not wanted nor fitted the bill in which I’m playing the game. (See starting post)
We started poorly but by Christmas we were still poor and bottom of the league more importantly.
The first realistic offer came through from Yeovil. (Fits the bill) I turned it down hoping to survive the struggle. After further bad results staying up was rather unlikely. Still the Yeovil job was available so I crawled into the Chairmen’s Office and begged to reconsider. He said ‘Who are you?’
Weston ended up crashing and burning rather like an annoying fly with has been killed by a flame lit aerosol with a lighter!
Season 06/07
Back in the Conference South I was expecting either mid table or respectable position from the board. Nope! They, like me, wanted to storm the league.
I’d bought heavily. Lots of youth and famous experience. This is a good idea for a clubs future in the Conference National. Now in the Conference South it starts eating on your finances.
The season didn’t start the way I wanted it. Heavy injuries meant I had to reconsider to my training schedule and languishing in mid table was lurking. I think losing in the National was a habit hard to break. By Christmas things had picked up and we were in the upper half of the table.
In the final run in, we’d hit our form. We were soon challenging for the title and even managed to sit on the top of the pile for a bit. But our luck was out.
We ended up finishing 2nd. Looking forward to the play-offs I tactically arranged the first game away and came out 2-0 winners!
We’d only ever drawn in the league encounters together so a win away was a great result. The Home tie was a mare! Of Super Mare proportions! We were 0-1 down, and had a player take an early bath for a 2nd bookable offence. We ended up losing 1-4. (3-4 on Agg) With the possibly worst result of our league campaign.
I also had the opportunity during the season to once again turn down the Yeovil post!!!
So I was looking forward to start of the next season. (4) To start the way we’d finished.
Season 07/08 (Current)
Some think is wrong with my Pre-season!! For now the second season we started poorly. So poorly I’ve been a relegation threat!!! In fact things soon picked up unnoticed by the board as they gave me the dreaded ‘vote of confidence’. Again we played the same Ol’record of mid table not helped by an inquisited wife watching me play the named ‘blasted game’ she wanted to help by ‘pressing some buttons’ so I let her play with the Tactic screen with the rule of changing or pressing anything else. She simply moved all my players into an all out ‘Keegan’ style attack formation 10 or of 1-10 including the GK. She left happily and I return the formation and continued.
After several varied results (none which I’d won) I’d worked out why my GK had recently decided to go up for corners!! Not a worry as it was in the last minute of a game. I thought it was quiet cool for him. When he does it in the 10th minute of a game at 0-0 you know there’s a problem. After a while I’d worked way my players were acting strange. They had picked up the tactics for other positions when my wife moved them hence why the GK was set to go forward for a corner!! So…….
NEVER LET A WIFE OR GF NEAR FOOTBALL MANAGER!!!!!
Luckily, I’m now (this morning) currently 5th and only 6 points behind the leaders on still on a 14 game unbeaten run and there are around 15 games of the season left. The squad is smaller and things again are looking rosy. I think if Swindon or any of the Bristol team needs a manger I not afraid to jump off this boat. Who knows my love affair with Yeovil could be a marriage(?)
