Southport are a reasonably good club and the board wanted me to secure a decent league position, with a view to establishing ourselves in the BSP after four years.
After a slow start to the campaign, a couple of key additions saw us sneak into the playoffs with a few games remaining. A 5-0 away win against in form Tamworth in the first leg was followed up by a 2-0 home defeat. We lost in the playoff final 5-0 to Kettering.

Got to first round of FA Cup.
Looks good for next season
Season 2008-2009 - Blue Square North
We started strongly, and we comfortably top of the table after ten/fifteen games, not least thanks to a 100% away record. Despite a dip in form due to fixture congestion (stupid cup replays) around christmas, we maintained our position, and our new year form saw us build a large gap to the second place team.
A 12-1-1 record, with 38 goals scored and 11 conceded, in the New Year, we were provided the opportunity to secure the league with five games to go. This also happened to be my 100th game in charge - a home game against mid-table Redditch. Despite a 94th minute equaliser, we won 2-1 and secured promotion to the Blue Square Premier. 10 points from the next four games ensured we won by a comfortable 18 points.

Halesowen's ridiculously good on-loan striker (from Parent Club Birmingham) bagged 61 goals in 44 league games!!!
Season 2009-2010 - Blue Square Premier
We were touted for mid-table obscurity, and that is where we sat for the majority of the season. A late surge saw us threaten to break into the playoffs, but we lacked depth outside of the first XI, and finished in a very respectable eighth position, one of our highest positions all season.
We also lost in the final of the Setanta Shield to local rivals Morecambe, which really ****ed the fans off. Managed to turn our £300k deficit into a positive bank balance, largely due to the sale of our promising right winger for £200k plus incentives.
