| How would a different match view alter this scenario? If the player's never played for you then you're not going to know how he performs regardless of how the match is displayed! Quote: |
2- u forget that skills are not having same effect in each action, like jumping may work in heading more than antciaption, or may be not,... u only can test that during the match, and the match don't tell u in each action if ball been headed or hit his head by accident and refelcted !! this is why peope stil larguning which skils are improtnat for jumping for exemple.
| If the player attempts 20 headers and wins 18 then he's strong in the air whether it's displayed on an isometric/3D pitch or a 2D pitch and stats page. Where the ball ends up depends on his heading stat and can be seen quite clearly on a 2D pitch. Quote: |
3- as i said this stats shows quantity and not quality, it dosn't make a differnce between a normal shot on goal and another which a player has to turn around and fly to shoot it.
| You can see this from the 2D pitch! I really don't see your point. Quote: |
4- this stats is not enough, as they are basic, and it existe in any match in RL, and managers can buy the SUN and read it, but they use another tool which is called PROZONE or MAT to anlasye those matchs and not those basic stats u were mentioning.
| Whether or not FM ships with ProZone is a different issure altogether surely.

hah hah. i laugh at anyone who says better graphics would distract from the game. laughable. the original poster is talkin of slightly improved graphics,... only slightly better. circles are just archaic for me.
sure you can tell when there is a change of pace, etc. but you've gotta try thinking vertically (cliche i know). only then you realize what you're missing. even if si uses 3d stick figures for the sake of giving the manager a better/more realistic view of the pitch, it would be appreciated.
| Sure a move from the current 3D to full working 3D is only a "very slight" change in graphics
I am quite happy with 2D and would not get anything more out of 3D. It would certainly detract from the game as it would cause the game to run far slower unless you have a really top end machine. I don't see it happening as SI know that sales would be down because most people's PC's simply couldn't handle it. </BLOCKQUOTE>
heh..i see your point. 3d would be a large leap for the series not a slight one.
i think that most people's pc's already don't support the game to its full potential. do you know anyone that plays with all leagues loaded, huge database, full detail etc etc....and remains sane after 4 continues?
any 3d engine would come with a 2d option. so there is no need to argue the point. a game with 3d but solid fundamentals will never lose customers, so weak point i think. cm07 ran like a gazelle for the one time i played it. it has a 3d engine, that is simple etc. a simple 3d engine is what i think people accostomed to this series will appreciate. no need for any FIFA graphics. for me there is even no need for elbows or knees.
just gimme 3d.

I for myself would like to see the 3D engine pretty soon, no matter if hardcore fans are pleased with the 2D, the fact is that it's 2007, soon 2008, when was the last time u sow another game with 2D engine being bestseller, i'd say diablo 2...
The fact is that other manager games have had their engine 3D for a long time, and it's about time sigames do it too, I'm pretty sure sigames would like some new customers too, with 2D engine that aint possible, the fact is, people that ain't hardcore fans will look at the images of the game when making desicions about buying the game.
And besides, to please old fans, it ain't that hard to keep 2D in the game game too, so it's really not a keep it or loose it situation.

There is ALOT more work that would go in to making a 3D match engine. SI would have to take on quite a bit more staff. The game would also no longer be accessible by those who don't have the money to upgrade to higher end PC's. One of the nice things about FM, is that it has very low system requirements, and if you were to make a 3D match engine, it would require a much better machine.
It's not as simple as it seems to just convert the engine from the 2d version they have now , into a 3d version with actual players.
Also, I am able to tell when players are skillful in the current match engine, it's pretty easy actually.
| why should he go play fifa manager. he is putting a point across that he thinks would improve the game in his opinion, so leave it out

I think something like Sensible World Of Soccer would be great to watch, that game kicked ass big time. I think that a match engine with graphics like those would be able to show more detailed goals and would surely not be too hard to implement. Although i wouldn't know i am not a programmer.

| Yes, CM2 i beleive.
A lot of people are stating 3d match engines suck, you should try and imagine pro evo 7 in a super zoomed out view combined with football managers depth, pure nirvana.
Again though until that becomes feasable 2d is fine.

3D would be awful. It would take so much away from the game. If you want to know if a player is skillful, look at his stats, its all there.
|
how can you honestly say 3d would be awful
that sounds like a riduclous comment

The 2D match engine is absolutely PERFECT for tactics...
Want to know if your defense is holding a tight defensive line? Have a quick glance at the screen.
Want to know if your midfield are getting up to support your target man? Have a quick glance at the screen.
Want to know if your team are being pressed back by the opposition? Have a quick glance at the screen.
And if you want to know if a player is as skilfull as Ronaldinho then:
1. Look at his stats
2. Look at the breakdown of his performance from the match - this gives you passes attempted/completed, key passes, dribbles made/completed, key dribbles, shots attempted/on target, tackles attempted/completed etc etc etc.
What exactly would a 3D match engine add which isn't already there?
|
there is so many things it would add
such as the ability to see if your player is skilfull - whats the point of the attributes saying someone is good at dribbling..if you never see him do it anyway
