I think it's a bad idea, it would be take away the realism.

With the 2D, it allows the game to be very realistic in terms of passing and general gameplay. With 3D, it would be more 'scripted' instead of anything goes.

It should only be considered when 3D can be almost as close to real life as possible. At the moment, the 2D engine represents the game better than 3D does, in my opinion.

There is ALOT more work that would go in to making a 3D match engine. SI would have to take on quite a bit more staff. The game would also no longer be accessible by those who don't have the money to upgrade to higher end PC's. One of the nice things about FM, is that it has very low system requirements, and if you were to make a 3D match engine, it would require a much better machine.

It's not as simple as it seems to just convert the engine from the 2d version they have now , into a 3d version with actual players.

Also, I am able to tell when players are skillful in the current match engine, it's pretty easy actually.
Spot on!

Plus I like the 2d engine, it tells me where my players are. I can see who makes mistakes, I can see if my wingers... attackers... are working as I want them to.

3d engine would mean bigger loading times too, but the main thing is I love the 2d match play.

ifu mean by player stats his stastics, well first it is breif and not as deep as other match engine alaayse in thoer games who use PROZONE and MAT
and it only give quantity indciation and not gaulity of it, like tackles !!! but don't tell how had the tackles was, and how difficult it was, same for dibbling, ...etc.
and if u mean by stats player skill, well the weight of each skill in each action is differnet, and u knid u se the match to know which skills work better, not the othe rway round !!
so sure a better engine will reply better to those missed informations in current 2d engine.
and this ione of main rasions, why i'm not in to the game yet comapred to other games.

This is another of these topics that has been thrashed to death over a long time.

I for one as a hardened CM and now FM player don't want to see the FIFA style graphics, to me they have always been tacky and I much prefer what we have.

In FM2007 I was able to download those little circles with feet, if that makes sense, and they were great.

I only hope I will be able to find the same for FM2008, but that's as far as I want to go.

I agree, that's such a ridiculous feature to add if you're not going to have your assistant tell you what he thought of the incident or have a 3D engine, it's just SI trying to add realism in a simple way, when for it to work they need to make the game much more realistic with a 3D engine.

Personally I don't really care if it goes 3D or not, the only way I can see it working is if Sega and Pro EVO come to some sort of a business arrangement. Which to me would make financial sense, as it would probably seriously dent FIFA Football's sales.

I've haven't actually played the recent versions of CM (since FM broke away) but i know it boasted a "tilted" pitch that allowed you to see the dynamics of the football (i.e. the height of crosses etc.)
Something such as this should definately be the next step forward for FM. It would certainly add to the element of realism that SI continually strive for and would be much easier to implement than a full blown 3D match engine. The format will have to change at some point, why not start now?

I wouldn't want a 3D match engine, 2D is perfect, just keep tweaking and improving on it, that's all it needs.

Leave the crappy 3D nonsense to rubbish such as Fifa Manager.

My only complaint wih the graphics, is there could be something more substantial to allow you to accurately comment on whether you think your team shouldve been given a penalty for or against. At the moment, seeing two circles run into each other always results in me getting warned by the FA as the video proved I was wrong

I would like to see Sensible Soccer type engine and have the option for 2d for people who do not like it.

If the only way you can tell if a player is 'skilful' is to watch a 3D representation of said player doing a fancy flick then you need help!

The 2D match engine is absolutely PERFECT for tactics...
Want to know if your defense is holding a tight defensive line? Have a quick glance at the screen.
Want to know if your midfield are getting up to support your target man? Have a quick glance at the screen.
Want to know if your team are being pressed back by the opposition? Have a quick glance at the screen.

And if you want to know if a player is as skilfull as Ronaldinho then:
1. Look at his stats
2. Look at the breakdown of his performance from the match - this gives you passes attempted/completed, key passes, dribbles made/completed, key dribbles, shots attempted/on target, tackles attempted/completed etc etc etc.

What exactly would a 3D match engine add which isn't already there?
