Misuse of the name or not, it's not a matter for SI, it's a matter for the UN. SI're just following the UK FCO/US CIA designation...

I really wonder how a guy from Singapore has an opinion on this subject..If you don't know just read, learn then speak..
If you want to go against me or disagree give some valid points(which you can't if you don't know about history and about Macedonian fights in the past)

If you're going to resort to petty name-calling and personal attacks then you're only going to get derisory responses. As for me I don't deal with people who obviously have no respect for people they're in discussions with, so I'm withdrawing from this obviously apparently never-ending discussion.

Having lived last year in Serres, Northern Greece (yes, it is in the region of Macedonia), I think I've heard some arguments about this topic

We make a simple distinction in Hungarian: when we talk about "Makedónia", we talk about the historical state/ current N. Greek region, when we say "Macedónia" it's FYROM. The two words are pronounced differently.

But I think it should rather be in the Off Topic forum

As a fellow Greek, I find this one of the most irrelevant topics ever posted in a Football Manager forum.

If you have a grievance with this speak to your local member of parliament, write to the UN, set up a website, whatever.

But it is not the business of SI games to sort out the world's political disputes. Any normal, functioning human being would recognise this regardless of where they're from.

Alekos is right that the current (Slavic) Macedonians have nothing to do with the old Greek-speaking Macedonians.

But the fact is that their country is officially known as FYR of Macedonia, and so this is the name FM and all other games/magazines/media and so on should use (and FM actually uses this name).

Imagine some norwegians had a part of scotland. Imagine there was no country named scotland but it was just region of england.

Imagine now those norwegian make a country named Scotland, with a language (actually norwegian) which they call Scotish , and of course claim that Wallace is their ancestor.

ok its very imaginative example but this is the point.

After the Yugoslavia broke up Skopje found that naming them Macedonians and claiming the history of Macedonia was very profitable for obvious reasons. I cant think anything else when I see a slav-nation that came to balkans at 500 claim the history and the name of a city-state of Greece at 300 BC! with a very silly and organized propaganda. But lets stop history if you want details check Wikipedia.

I don't want to blame SI ,letting a country with that name is a big false of GREECE.

I as a Greek feel terrible that another nation wants to get advantage by stealing my history.I live in Macedonia I am Macedonian BUT I am Greek for gods sake, and i live in Greece(EDHESSA). The next thing we will see is a tribe from asia making a country and naming it SPARTA...

We have problems with Turkey but they never claimed our history because they just live in parts of ancient Greece(like ephestos ,Asia minor, ect) .they have their own history and they our proud of it.

Personally what I want from SI is giving us the official patch as fast as possible and you to recognize how harmful it is when someone steals your History.
