I seem to have below 40% possession at home nearly every league match.
I'm playing with Benfica, surely 33% possession against a 10 men BELENENSES (had a player sent off on the 2nd minute!) is wrong? This is just one of the examples of the unrealistic farce going on at my home ground. I finished the half on 26%.
I mean there's matches that I won 4-0 with 37% possession, and the opposition hardly have more than 3 shots on goal. What were they doing with their possession?
It's highly inconsistent, it seems like the possession values have 'swapped'.
I think this is down to the issue where if you watch a full game you will see defenders passing the ball around at the back.
Ive had a degree of success by closing down much higher up the pitch- key for me wasnt my FC/AMR/AML closing down but getting my MCs to close down in their half as well.
If you're benfica then the other teams may be playing more defensively and so holding onto the ball and playing shorter passes to avoid giving it away. Also winning 4v0 and having such low percentage maybe just means you were brilliant when you had the ball but you're players were letting the other team do the running around.
it's every home LEAGUE match where I never have more than 50%, ever. And the rest are 30's and low 40's. If it's the cup/league cup or europe it's fine!
I don't play any differently in the league, so something is definitely not right.
Also compared with the possesion you have and or opposition who is creating more chances? That does sound odd, but at the end of the day if your at home and your creating much more chances does it really matter to much how much possesion you have? Also like someone else said its quite possible teams you played against have set up get defensively so they are holding on to the ball more often.
What is it like for you away from home? Possesion wise?

Away from home it looks normal and it varies as expected from a 5% margin.
Even if the away teams are set up defensively, it's still unrealistic for the home team such as Benfica to have about 1/3 of the game with mammoth amount of chances in comparison.
And this only happens in League games mostly. I had 58% possession at home in the CL quals against a poor team who had 1 shot in the whole game (Dinamo Tbilisi), this makes sense possession wise. But then a team like Penafiel have 2 shots in the whole game but with 63% possession, whilst Benfica had 24 shots.
If you look at the match stats of your opponent, you'll probably see some players with around 80-100 passes in the match. Doesnt take a genius to figure out what the hell happended then and that SI should fix it for 8.0.2.

I have never watched a full match but tried for the first time yesterday evening. I was treated to a 34 pass move by the opposition back four in their own half, which ended up with a throw in. Enthralling.
If it is not your tactics then how come not many others have the same issue? I am playing the same game as you...and I have no idea what your talking about. Most my games are around 50/50 possession.

I've never watched a full match, but if that's what happens then something should be done to make it more realistic. 135 passes by 1 opposition player doesn't go down very well with the home crowd let alone my players who are probably eating popcorn because they have had enough chances in their books for the day.
