I have a question regarding friendlies in the build-up towards a new season.
I always play 2 tours, the first one containing 4 matches, each with one day rest in between, the second one also containing 4 matches, each with 2 days rest in between.
My question: Is this any good? I think you have to play pretty much games, so your team can get used to the tactic, the players will become match-fit and they can work on their form.
Also, I would like your view on the following: in the friendly games I use my first eleven for the first half, and the second eleven for the second half. I don't want to burden my first choicese too much and I want to get my reserves in shape for the season.
My english might not be perfect, but I think you all know what I mean.
I guess a lot of people have diffrent ways of doing pre-season. I guess this is one way of doing it and your focus is about getting your whole team fit.
Myself I would say 8 is too many matches but that's my personal preference. I find 5-6 just about right I usually use them to a) make players fitter which is the whole point and b) to test diffrent players with each other to see how well they play together.
I also make a tactic during pre-season which get's the best out of my team. For example my last save which is with Leeds I in the first season played a 4-4-2 diamond because I had Thompson who played well just behind two strikers (Blake and McDonald in my case)
However now in the second season I play 4-5-1 in the Premiership because my center of midfield is quite strong (Felipe and Merino in the center with Tacchinardi just behind). I also have a flat 4-4-2 which I've used both seasons seeing as 4-4-2 seems very default-ish.
I also use the first 22 for a half time each in my entire pre-season.
I usually start with the game 2 weeks into the training and play a game every 4 days, unless a tour, then every 3 days. that usually ends up in easily more than 10 games soemtimes, which I think is good, combined with a heavy pre-season training.
