It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

It's all about Morale mate, there are some really useful guides on here on how to conduct team talks and how to respond to the media.....get your morale sky high and things will go a lot better. Easier said than done though I know. I suffered with Histon (conference south) and thought I'd tried everything...read some of the guides on here and everyone's talking about team talks and media etc. They were correct, when I got this right things turned around, once morale is up my team became unstoppable...didn't change my tactics at all.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

We are second bottom now. About 26 games in or so.
Our record is a lot better than it has been in previous games - but i am finding away games especially difficult.

If we had not been deducted 10 points we would be sitting just below mid table, and 3 wins will claw us out of the relegation zone.

I have tried to add a target man, playing it to his head. His value has shot up to 400k and he is top scorer. He got injured and has been dropped, his replacement has been performing great.

However, my next issue is my defence. I am not concerned about the opposition having more attempts at goal than me, or more possession - as i am playing a direct game, not short.
I am a bit leaky at the back, any suggestions??

Thanks for all who have contributed!

Oh, and if we go down i will not give up, i have signed all my players to new contracts early on, and we have the team to take us back up anyway judging on this seasons performances.

Cheers all!

After a couple of bad runs toward the end of the season we have been relegated to the bottom tier.
I think this time i wont be so hard pushed for players as i signed most of them up to new contracts early on in this season.

My defence seems to be extremely leaky. Can anyone help with this? I dont remember keeping very many clean sheets at all.

Should i be playing offside trap?
Should i play deep?
Should i play higher up the pitch?
Should i close down?
Should my defenders wham the ball out or should they play it out on the ground?
Should my full backs be going forward?

Can anyone have a look at the Rotherham team on their game, the stats of the players, and have a think?

I play back four...

Worrell (RB) Mills (CB) Fleming (CB) Hurst (LB)

I also have a DM

What are the best instructions for him to give him a defensive role, but also to open up the game and speed up with the attacks??

I assume you are playing a 4-4-2? If so have your two centre backs totally dedicated to defending i.e no forward runs, mentality and creativity set to low. Fullbacks slightly more attacking with them crossing from deep to your target man.

As for midfied I tend to have one centre mid defence minded and the other attacking but thats just me. Just adapt to what kind of players you have.

Your most important players will be your two wide men and your target man. Your wingers should be quick and have a decent crossing level as they will hopefully be providing the bulk of your assists. Your target man should be good in the air (heading and jumping) and have a decent first touch. The other striker should be quick with high finishing.

Also think about having farrows on your two wingers.

Let us know how you get on!

I have started a new game for now, in Iceland (the country, not the store...).
I will let you know what happens. the principals i am using are kind of the same i guess! Target man game with 442 formation.

We (Valur) went out of Europe in the qualifying round but against a good team (Dinamo Bucharest) 1-0 on aggregate - the goal coming in the last few minutes of the second (away) leg, so i was kinda proud of that, because for Valur, thats a decent attempt i think.

Will let you know what happens though, cheers!
