What is the general opinion on how to make the most secure defence there is? Obviously players dependant, but what team/individual settings will help attain the best defensive record possible? Rare or often closing down, defensive or normal mentality? tight or normal marking? Man or zonal?
One thing I have always prided myself on is having a great defensive record, and defence is always one of the first places I look to improve in my team. However in FM07 I have struggled to find the settings that have made me happy. I always seem to conceed more than the otehr teams around me (Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool etc). Now I know Reading aren't the best team, but I just won the premiership and Uefa Cup so my team must be capable. However I am conceeding too many goals. I am seemingly unable to keep clean sheets almost. I can win by 3 or 4 goals, but I always tend to conceed at least 1. What fixes can I put in place to stop this?
I am currently using FuSS' Minimal FuSS tactic v4. The only difference I make are dropping defensive line to deep for fast strikers and taking off run with ball and forward runs to rare so they aren't caught out against faster wingers.
I have Enyeama or Cudicini in goal so I shouldn't have thought it would be down to them. Both have the right stats and are amoung some of the best keepers imo. Good reflexes handling and positioning, plus jumping. Command of area is also good for cudicini. Still struggling with goals conceeding.
