Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Swap position = swap instructions ?

I've posted the simmilar topic a year ago, and we ended the discusion with agreement to wait until the next year.

The next year has come along with the new version of football manager and the dillema is still there.

Is there anybody in SI thinking about swapping instructions along with swapping position ?

The reason is very simple.

If you have lets say Carrick and Scholes (or Pirlo and Gattuso) in the midfield and you would like to swap them, you don't want Carrick to do Scholes "job".

Why to swap them?

I say why not? It makes your team less predictable and more adventorous.

The other example? Crouch and Cisse.

Do you see my point?

I know SI is making a game for us and we can't force them to do anything but I hope they will read my post and think about it for the next years Football manager as for me this is really important option that the tactic in FM is missing.

cheers

for soemthign so unsual, I dont see why you cant simply do this in the middle of a game - just go to the tactics page and swop the players and change the settings to exactly what you want.

Shouldnt take more than a few seconds

swapping works now (truly awkwardly but works)

the player instructions apply to the position on the pitch

so, if you swap 2 players in the PKD list you swap the only the position of the players, not the instructions

and if you swap the players on the pitch area you swap the instructions also

the same happens with the order of players listed the viewing the team while playing a match...

if you start the game and your team has a classic 4-4-2 positioning; the natural order of the in match list is WBR,WBL,CBR,CBL;AMR,AML,MCR,MCL;FCR,FCL

and if you CBR with FCR on the pitch area of the tactics window; when you'll play a game you'll see the defender name lower in the list - side by side with your striker (FCL)

i hope i explained clearly enough...

Yes, the instructions apply to the position on the pitch - the point is, if you swap Scholes and Carrick over, when they swap Scholes will take on Carrick's instructions, which is not really what you want.

Personally, I can see a problem with this if you're trying to mix things up a little, but I would solve the problem the way socks suggests by manually moving the players accross when you want to mix things up.

It also shouldn't take ages. When swapping a player over, drag him to a position where you aren't playing any one. Then drag the second player to the old position of the first player. Then drag the first player to his new position. There - two players swapped, and little need to fiddle with sliders!

You can also edit the preset templates if you use the same settings all the time.

hi Millie

yes i had a thought for our friend - set up a tactic with the swop settings - then when you want to implement it, go to tactics, load it, change the players around as desired and there you go

Do you use swapping position?

If so, try doing it(like you say) without the "swapping position" option in the player instructions, for a month.

U see my point? It can get a "little" frustruating.

The players usually change position every 3-5 minutes. If you would like to do that manually, you would have to do it around 20 times. Every game!

All the options in the game are there for your convieniece and are supposed to make your experience with the game more ejoyable, not a less one.

cheers

A choice should be given as to weather instructions apply to the positions or to the players.

For example, watching Milan the other night, the 4 midfielders (Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Ambrossini) all popped up everywhere on the pitch - central, wide, dm, etc. However they all played their own role, just in different areas of the pitch.

Also, say in a 4-3-3 formation, an option which allows the AMR/L's to swap to AMC's, where no other player may necessary play. Sarrows kinda do this job but it's not very clear.

This is another case of the manual being just damn awful. It must be impossible to do well at this game without visiting these or similar forums, where you actually find out what everything really means, and there are still debates though as to what eveything does.
