I`ve been reading an article about this at fm britain but there are a few things that confuses me:
------------------------------------------------
Quote:
Forwards: Tight marking for any half decent striker always, closing down always/never for slow strikers/explosive strikers, hard tackling for towering strikers and heading monsters (if they get fouled all day, turn off). Sometimes show on weaker foot for technical strikers.
Closing down should be related to the player’s pace. If you only have one player with pace 6 or 8 in your back-line (especially the CBs) and the opposition player has a pace of 16, you should choose close down never. If you are playing explosive strikers but your CBs have a pace of 14 to 16, consider closing down neutral (no specific) or even often. Closing down often seems to work a charm as long as there are no large gaps in speed and the defenders are matching the opposition quality in rough terms. It would certainly fail if there is a gap of two divisions in quality though.

I don`t really understand if I´m supposed to use both "closing down always" and "tight marking always" on the op. forwards??
And another thing, is there something wrong in this sentence:
"Forwards: Tight marking for any half decent striker always, closing down always/never for slow strikers/explosive strikers
I don´t really understand this, could someone please help me with this?

Never.I've read many topics tried and I'm sure don;t do it.It's a interesting topic, but to say the true I use opposition instructions rarely-only for quality players like Villa or Shevchenko( of course if I play with a quality team), close down often players with great long shots like Jan Polak.I never hard tackle a player who picked a knock (ha-ha he better play with injury) and never set individual instructions to more than 2 players. And interesting from what country are you?

I`m from Sweden and I`m playing with Coventry in my third season now lying at 4 place in PL beginning of april.
My team is beginning to shape up a bit but there are still some players who needs to be replaced.
I often have problems with op strikers who are fast (my DC:s are not sprinters) but from this article i`m still not sure how to handle this,
I suppose I should "tight mark always" and "never close down" , am I right??
I had the same problem with fast strikers. I found never tight mark and close down always is more effective. If u tight mark a fast striker they will just turn you inside out but closing down always gives them no space to run with the ball. Try it!
i use opposition instructions all the time. one has to be particularly cautious about closing down as it can be effective but it can also drag your defense out of position and end in tears against a pacey opponent.
in response the original question:
in general, if their striker is slow, close down. if he is fast, never close down. if he is very technical, wrong foot him.
i always tackle hard on all middies and forwards, unless i'm getting a lot of fouls (or start collecting cards). works pretty well depending on the rest of your tactics. if you're playing a very defensive formation it may be redundant and add little value.
danger men in whatever shape or size are a danger because they can hurt you, so it stands to reason that you give them as little time with the ball as possible! if you lose out to a better player then you cant complain and hope for better luck next time!!
i must admit though i havent used opp/inst since the demo but when i did it worked great! i guess i just like a challenge !
