Hi all,
As some of you will gather from the thread title I have started a new game with Preston North End in the Championship. I am nearing the beginning of the season and have made a fair few changes to the playing staff as well as the coaching staff, as I like to adopt my own style throughout a club. Without going into too much detail about who I have sold and who I have signed I have basically put a team together that is capable of playing decent short passing football (the style I prefer). The spine of the team, which I feel is crtical to my tactical success is:
Andy Lonergan (GK)
Youl Mawene (DC) (plays way out of trouble)
Paul McKenna (MC) (dictates tempo)
David Nugent (ST) (do I need to say anything?)
Basically what im trying to show is the reason I have adopted short passing, as I feel the spine of the team compliments this. Bearing this in mind I have a few questions in my mind that maybe some of the gurus could answer (sorry for a lack of screenshots, am unsure as to how to put them up)
Anyway, the only team instructions I have changed from a standard 4-4-2 are:
Mentality: Attacking (three notches from middle)
Passing: Short (1 notch before mixed)
Closing Down: Often (4 or 5 notches from middle)
Time Wasting: Rarely
A few individual instructions have been changed to dictate where the wingers cross the ball (I have gone for back post) and I flirt with tight marking around the team from time to time. I do admittedly rely on feeding nugent as I have him set to target man (either played to feet or run onto ball).
Considering all of this are there any particular pointers or words of advice that would support this system in matches? Although it is apparent that I need to tinker for certain matches and situations I am struggling to fit contingency plans around this system. Would anyone like to offer any advice? Once again, I apologise for lack of screenshots
