I am not looking for a succesful tactic or a tactic that wins the whole time. I don't want the all-beating, all-conquering tactic that doesn't exist. I want to play sexy football. I think that morale, form and quality of player has a lot to do with tactics succeeding, and that any decent tactic can work when the three factors above combine. Not every tactic works, but most work if they make tactical sense. I don't find it hard to play fm and win. I can do that. I cant get my players to win and play the beautiful game the way its supposed to be played. I would like to know if any of you have played good football, gotten good statistics and played well even if you lost most of your games. I can make a tactic win if it has logic but I have yet to find a tactic with logic that plays beatiful football. So what settings do you have your teams on to play nice football? Where are the sliders at and what are your instructions? Has anyone played good football and failed to win? I'm sure your out there. Please help and feel free to help. The closest I have come is having your normal 4-3-3/4-5-1 in a 4-1-2-2-1 if you get me. I put farrows on the fullbacks and the left sided cm. Heres the inovation: the amr has an arrow to the top left corner of the pitch and the aml has an arrow to the top right. There both on free rolls too. While I played decent football it wasnt that realistic a formation and withouth the best players in the world results were few and far between. Thanks for reading this if you did and any help will be much apreciated.

well let's think how they play:
Man Utd and Arsenal: Quick Tempo, Short Passing - in game terms try around notch 3 of the passing bar, and around notch 18 of the tempo bar. Add counter attack if you wish to play exactly like them.
Bacrelona: Again short passing. Try around notch 3. Slow tempo, try notch 5 or 6 of the tempo bar.
Then work you're way around this. Have a "test" game of FM, where you experiment your tactic and take note of the things you notice in the match highlights, and edit the tactic accordingly.

Short passing and quick tempo doesnt work that well but I dont think they have to be too close all the same. Slow tempo and short passing never really worked for me either, not until I had an amazing team. I usually play mixed passing as I dont want to have anybody really focused on short or long. I want the option to be there for both. Like in the community shield for example. Uniteds goal came from a long crossfield pass from ferdinand to evra who then played a short one - two with ronaldo before pulling it back for giggs. I like playing a quick tempo too as slow really doesnt work in the prem. What youve said is the basic logic around playing good football but it really doesnt work in fm07. Does anyone else have the same problem? Has anybody solved the problem? Keep the posts coming though because every little helps.

yeah... i m thinking of that too... good football should be have very nice movement and passing and not play with targetman...
i think FM2007 cant success with beautiful football.
beautiful football in my opinion at 1st.. the team need the fast and skillful striker.. try to see man utd, arsenal, barca... what kind of striker they used.
but i ever try 442 with 2 fast and skillful striker.... very hard to success...

I think formation is the most important thing here. Playing a 5 man midfield will offer lots of passing options which is what you want, and then a fast striker to play off the last man.
4-4-1-1 of 4-2-3-1 (with the 3 AMC's, sarrows pointing outwards). Flexible players who can swap positions would be useful for the AMC's - even better if you can find 4 players who can play AMC, ST and perhaps AMR/L; they can all be swapping around the 4 attacking positions in the 4-2-3-1. A playmaker could also work too.
I say this because on FM you often have to adjust tempo, passing and mentality so the variables that might define "style of play" are things like formation, TTB, RWB, and especially forward runs, as well as TM settings (if you have one or not). However in general you would want slow and shortish, verging on mixed passing/tempo - you need a good team to be able to dictate play of course.

I had it going once with of all teams, Darlington .. lots of movement, interchanging of players, overlapping etc etc
Sadly, the players weren't good enough to make anything of it and wasted chances and shipped a few goals .. strangely, I've not got it working with the better teams.
For what it was worth - I was using a 361 formation .. 2 DMs, 2 wingers and 2 AMs with a big bustling target man to play off.
