We are discussing this over at another site and wondered what the specifics of the Free Role entail.

I sort of understand its usage in the Attacking sense. But wondered whether there was any way to apply it in a defensive capacity to full effect?

Checked the Tactics Bible and couldnt find anything. Apologies if this has been asked already...

Defensive free role? Hmm that would be odd.

I have just always presumed it to be used soley for attacking or creative players in a tactic. Like Totti for Roma in RL.

Surely it wouldn't work for a Defensive role that well as the attributes needed to be a good free role are attacking minded attributes? I could be wrong tho..

I have seen this on some tactics that they use the DMC and the AMC in a freerole and swop the 2 during the game...

Yeah I have just wondered whether it could be applied to the Sweeper position if dealing with an intelligent player... You can only do so much with a Sweeper with the normal settings. However I assumed with a really defensive mentality and the free role ticked... He would have no shackles on his attempts to break up play anywhere along the backline...

I suppose it could be possible but you would have to test it over a period of time during the game. I am not so sure it would work personelly as if he was on a free role it could mean when he attempts to move freely to break up the oppositions play that it leaves a big hole which if against a good team could expose quite easily and you could end up getting beat big time :<

I suppose the other factor is how you team plays, if you have a defense that plays as a unit having a DC as a free role sweeper could be a disater
