It depends on the individual, some young players will obviously develop faster than others, and many won't get to a level where they fit into the side at all.

Whether or not to play them in cup games depends on whether or not you want to win trophies.

Also depends on the league your managing in. Some leagues you can afford to throw in younger players into the first team for league matches.

But that's the fun part of nurturing ur own players, its up to you how you bring them up

They develop faster with 1st team football, so if you can't offer them that your better off trying to loan them off to a team where they will be definite 1st team.
