They can shoot a Welshman found inside the city walls after midnight as long as they use a bow and arrow
OK, I admit it. Despite my feeble protestations to the contrary, it was no fun not signing anyone on my Pescara CM0102 attempt. Therefore, I have decided to let this game go.
Strangely, given the aforementioned byelaw that I believe is still in force in Chester, I've decided to start it all again at the Deva Stadium. I've just made sure that my house is well outside the city walls & that I'm always home before midnight.
I almost took up the Leigh RMI baton, so beloved in these parts, but baulked at the no goalie challenge that the computer (randomly I hope) threw up - the thought of signing a 16 yr old with a rating of 1 for all the major attributes wasn't too appealing. (Still on CM0102)
It's the first time that I've started at a club in debt (-£500k, roughly) - though the sale of a couple of players and 2x£375,000 cash injections has helped somewhat (I still have a transfer budget of £0 however). Despite a couple of dissapointing results (most noteably losing 2-3 to Barnet after being 2-0 up after 20 minutes) I find myself joint top at the end of October.
Would dearly love to strengthen my squad in a couple of positions, but have my maximum two loanees currently. I hope that I'll maintain my league position and go up this year, but I'll probably have to wait for a couple of Bosmans at the end of the season and have a concerted effort next year.

Actually, I think it is also legal to kill a Welshman from the walls of Chester City so long as a bow and arrow is used, so I'd keep away from the walls if I were you. I always wanted to test this out, but standing on the walls with my longbow and shouting to passerbys "are you Welsh?" just didn't seem like a good idea.

Shouldn't be too hard to find a couple of sheep to use as bait.

With emphasis on dummy, huh?

I'd always hoped that one of my threads would generate a reasonable number of responses This wasn't quite what I had in mind, however.
Getting back on thread;
End of January now & Chester are unbeaten in over 20 matches :eek:. Not top, however, as there have been a few more draws than I'd like. I am within spitting difference of the one and only promotion place though (this being CM0102).
I have a feeling that my unbeaten run will soon be coming to an end. After enduring the mixed emotions that was a home tie with Cardiff City in the 3rd round of the FA Cup (fortunately for me, game wise, they matched last night's real life performance against Peterborough ) I find myself visting Highbury in round 4.
Still, I may finally earn something approaching a transfer budget from the tie - despite having stabilised my finances the board still won't let me spend a penny. (Which reminds me, I must ask for a toilet nearer my office!)

As a point of interest, and without veering dangerously into the BBQ zones, what are peoples managerial styles when starting at a new club?
I am from the Howard Wilkinson/Sven Goran Eriksson (spelling?) school of thought, that arrives at a team and attempts to shoe horn players into my favoured formation and playing style (although unlike a certain Swede I would probably draw the line at trying to play a no scoring-easily toppled donkey on the left wing )
Does everyone else favour this approach, or do you try and use a tactic and style that matches the (lack of) resources at your disposal?
