It would appear that a window of opportunity has emerged....
I'll take events in order. An exciting end to the season for Chester.
League Cup Semi-final 2nd leg
As expected, Liverpool fielded a full strength team and won 3-0 (agg 4-2) thanks to a hat-trick from the easily toppled donkey
Football League Division 1
With 44 games gone, Chester sit in 3rd place (surprise) 2pts behind Birmingham with one game in hand. Game in hand finishes in defeat. Looks like the playoffs again
Chester win their last game, and a Birmingham 0-0 means that Chester finish second on goal difference
FA Cup
After replays in the 4th, 5th, & 6th rounds Chester find themselves up against the (relatively) mighty Tottenham Hotspur in the semis. A shock 3-2 victory means a final against Newcastle United.
A quick look at the EPL table before the final shows Newcastle in contention for a UEFA cup spot via their league position. Could the mighty :p Chester City find themselves in Europe whatever the result?
It all proves academic:- a stunning 2-1 victory ensures that the FA cup resides in Chester for the 1st time ever.
The fans comment that "Michal Kus is building a world class team"!!! (1st time I've ever seen that one). I beg to differ - a lot of luck saw us win the cup, we will struggle next year. We lost 11 in div1 for goodness sake.
Personally I am absolutely shocked. A couple of weeks before the end of the season I had decided to look around if I failed to take Chester up. As it is I will be fighting on two fronts next season - against relegation from the EPL and against an embarrasingly early Uefa cup exit.
Average attendance 7,300 ish.
Board add 1,500 seats to take capacity to circa 12,000. Then expand again to meet EPL minimum requirements. The Deva stadium now holds a massive 16,600 all seated. I am confident of one thing next season - I'll probably break the record low average EPL attendance of about 12,000 (Wycombe).
Sorry it's so bloody long!
