Yeah, you're right. I was thinking along the lines of the monty burns school of encouragement...

I had a shootout like that at my FC Honka save. Both teams score only 1 out of first 11 penalties. Then, we won 2:1 after 13th.

Not necessarily shootouts, but my current team seem to be unable to convert a 12-yard kickball punishment for the life of them: 6 in the season so far - not one of them in the back of the net

In my experience they're usually doing ok during a game. It's just in a shootout that they all the sudden forget where the goal is. </BLOCKQUOTE>

In a match or in a shootout shouldn't have THAT much of an effect, in my opinion. Regardless, I think penalty taking attributes have been too low. Just because they're lower league doesn't mean they all of a sudden can't take a penalty half decently, yet the majority of players I've ever come across (Granted not with 06 yet since I haven't got it) have low penalty attributes.

Normally, though I know not all the time, players with good finishing skills tend to be able to take a decent penalty as well.

Penalty attribute should be lower than in the top tiers, but as said already, that doesn't mean they can't hit pens. I have several guys with over 10, but they're still aiming for the keeper every single time. Now I have finally scored on pen though. How? Raw power through the keeper it seemed. Straight forward, just as every other penalty. They're capable of at least trying to hit the inside of the posts from 20 meters, so why not from 11? It's silly that every penalty goes straight forward, while the AI shaves the inside post every time. It's not fair I tell'ya!

never mind the shootout, something far weirder happened: the board unanimously agreed to my request for better training facilities.

HOLY #%&#

I can't even get the Newport board to give us fresh orange slices at half time.

There's nothing worse, at half time, than a pre-chewed orange slice.

It's unrealistic for penalties to be anything to do with the tier your playing at. Remember Ricardo's penalty against England in euro 2004? Outfield ability has nothing to do with pressure or ability to strike a ball.
