Is there any rule of thumb for getting the board to improve training facilities? Especially from fairly basic to the next level. Any idea?
I'm playing Finnish team Viikingit, and doing very well. Got league promotion in the first season, 11th after first league season, 5th for 2nd season and Finnish Cup title (now looking forward to UEFA-cup qualifications!). Despite the success hiring new players is driving me nuts. So many snub all my offers by blaming the "fairly basic" training facilities. I even made one ultimatum, the board just forgave me and explained that the club simply can't afford it. The fans are backing me.
How much money must the club have in order to get them make the investment??? At the moment, the club has about 160.000 euros in the bank. By selling a couple of my best players, I could easily get half a million, but I rather keep them fighting for the next league title.
Idea for FM 2007: Manager can release anonymous insider media story that causes the board to be sacked and replaced with guys willing to cooperate with the manager!

Is this the first recorded case of someone surviving an ultimatum? Wow.

I think this bit is the key: a 160k bank balance is still pretty small. You might be able to operate within budget and not be bleeding out as many of us are, but the board aren't going to spend a fortune on facilities when you've not got a significant wedge in the bank. I forget how much FM charges for these upgrades, but IIRC it's more like millions than thousands

Let's not and say we did eh? Insider media comes a waaaaay distant second to making sure regular media is accurate, IMO.
What always annoyed me is when you ask the board to increase stadium size or improve facilities and they say that there are “plans in place” but they don’t tell you when it is going to happen. And nothing seems to get done!!
The other day I issued an ultimatum and got this back -
'The Eastleigh board have reprimanded you for your outburst and told you they are not willing to improve the club's training facilities at this time.
They are far from happy at being issued with an ultimatum, but, as they appreciate the work you have done at the club thus far, they are willing to overlook your little tantrum this time.'
Mine got upgraded from sh!tty or something equivalent to average facilities for about £55K. Been asking them to upgrade ever since and just get back they can't afford it. Have £1.6M in the coffers now. They either want it for themselves, or it costs a truckload of money to improve it further.
If you're successful enough as manager my experience is you can survive not just one rejected ultimatums, but several. The board's rating of you goes down though, and they'll sack you if you keep at it long enough.

They also need to save up money for you to spend on transfers and wages.
I believe as you upgrade the training facilities the costs become bigger.

I have steered totally away from giving ultimatums now. I had a particularly long career going on CM4 but the board wouldn’t increase the size of the stadium. I drove the board too hard issuing several ultimatums asking for the stadium to be made bigger ... got the boot. I just couldn’t give up the game
so I restored from save game .
