| Valid point. When you're in let's say 12th place in Conf South with just 3 games to go, why not.
But that's not throwing games on a way the TS means it I think. When you field some youth's in a game that's hardly important, that seems to be ok. When you field crappy (crappier) players to prevent a team from getting promoting, that sounds like cheating to me.

They claim confession is good for the soul, so mia culpa.
Picture the scene, I'm top of the national by a point. My last match is against the team in 2nd place. Oh and my ground capacity is only 2500.
Now coming to this match I'm pretty certain that I read someplace that I needed a ground capacity of 3000 to gain promotion so I plan to do the best thing financially for the club. Throw the last match and pick up gate receipts from the playoffs.
My mix of promising youth and inherited donkeys were all given nice clean kits. I'm just about to give my first 11 a few days off to prepare them to win the FA Trophy and playoffs, and then the opposition manager released a media comment.
Suitably annoyed I sent the youth squad back to the creche, the donkeys back to the pier, and dispatched the first team to ensure justice was served. Tight 1 - 1 draw if your interested.
If you've read this far, there is a moral to this tale. The thread I half remember reading in GQ (or was it bugs?, can't find the thing now I'm looking for it) was just that, half remembered. Maybe the capacity is 2000 not 3000. Maybe one of the teams in the playoffs also had a capacity that was below the required. Whatever the explanation I'm in L2 and looking good for one of the relegation spots back to the national :thdn:

I'd be sorely tempted, but in the end I wouldn't trow it I think. Even if the nature of my ground would make my promotion application be rejected, I would still want to have it on my palmares.
I guess it's also easier to ask the chairman for an upgrade if you actually need it.

i have done it but in reverse. played the irish league as waterford united. cork city were second bottom and dublin city were bottom with equal points but cork had a better goal diff by 2 goals. last day of the season cork beat shamrock rovers 1-0 and i played dublin city. as hard as it was to do it i let dublin beat me 5-0 as i was safe in 3rd place...and consequently relegating the scum that is cork city.
and id do it again.....

I'd never throw away a game in the league. The cups is a different story, but either way I always try to get the best result I can. That may be a draw or a close defeat with youngsters or against a superior side, but I never throw away games. It goes against every fiber to do so. It's match-fixing and I do believe people have been charged for stuff like that. Germany comes to mind...

There are rumours every year over here that bottom teams in the afl throw games towards the end of the season so they get additional draft picks.
As for FM... I never, never, never even contemplate throwing a game to affect the outcome of the league. Anyone that does should watch the door doesn't hit them on the way out, frankly.
However;
If you are mid table nearing the end of the season and your star amc is moving on as the whinging bastard wants a 300% pay rise and there's a promising 17yo in the u19s, then a few weeks of daily cross country runs and watching from the dugout could be in order for said whinging bastard.

There's a world of difference between intentionally throwing games and blooding your youngsters, and it lies on your disposition towards the game and the way you play it.

Not too sure if your trying to tell me that, or agreeing with me. In any case that was what I was trying to say :thup:
