I must say I have been reading up on what you guys do and I like the concept. I have gone and taken Conference North/South teams up through the ranks before, but I ddidn't do it the way you guys did. I hardly ever use scouts and simply would do a player search. But I like your ways. Consider myself intrigued. I think I will have a go at doing it your way. The only problem I have (well actually I don't because I'm a yank going to try this in the Conference South) is that in real life, managers can hear about players by watching television or reading a paper. That way he can learn about players other than by scouting. For instance, if I did this in the American league, I wouldn't have to scout too much beacsue I know which players are good and which are rubbish. I wouldn't need a scout to tell me that. And that is simply because I watch tv and I follow the sport. How do you guys conteract knowing about players in England at lower levels? (I don't have to worry about this becasue I don't know any players outside of the Premiership)
We consider every save a life in itselfs and tend to rely on scouts solely. Every RL knowledge should be abondended (note: for players at lower league levels a huge amount of randomness is build into the game so RL knowledge isn't a good basis for your save)
What about media knowledge you might ask? Well if they are mentioned in the ingame news then it's fair play to scout them otherwise scout search only.
Never becomes an issue. If my scout brings up a player I recognise, great, but I will still judge him on the scout report (and it's not very likely in the Welsh league or the lower end of the northern ireland league )

Phil, I'll probably regret asking this, but what the hell does that "otfkthx" and the number after it mean?

Hello, fellow Yank.
There's a lack of media knowledge in FM, no doubt. I get 20x more information about Scottish Division 3 every week from BBC than I do in a month of Football Manager. Plus, I can go to the individual team websites and see what the local pundits think.
I counteract the lack of media by habitually scouting the top performers in my division. Leading the league in assists, and only 18 years old? You better believe I'm send my scouts to watch him.
However, there's a very realistic thing you should do no matter what - *always* scout before you purchase someone's rights. Even if a player has performed amazingly, you'd want assurances that he'll maintain that form before investing in him. Think "bat speed" for baseball.

IIRC, it's some OTF thing about marking a fiver with some number.
Each person in OTF does it and when someone finds a marked fiver he reports it in the thread they made for that. </BLOCKQUOTE>
not quite, but related. someone started a 'Googlehog' thread where people were using their unique forum number - I think its in the web address when you look at your profile- and trying to spread it around as much as possible so it could get more and more google hits.
I know.
Tbh, I think it was very shortlived, and I may well remove it soon
