I can understand the original question with regards to loan players. I remember Harry Redknapp at Bournemouth many years ago using his contacts to secure some useful loan siginings but I wouldn't imagine many managers would phone up every club in the league(s) above or below to see whether any of their players are for sale! Football in my mind is all about having good contacts. Redknapp used to play for West Ham so he arranged the loans of juniors with potential. I can't imagine any manager taking to cold calling, they wouldn't have the time.

I can't believe this is being discussed.
"Hello, Jose? Arsene here. How about selling me a player?"
"Sir Alex, it's Rafa. Would you like to buy a funny-haired froggie misfit?"
Wouldn't happen.
You can't go wrong, in an LLM sense, with scout before you buy.

I didn't even know that LLM here was such a religious dogma!
| To paraphrase Shankley: It's much more important than that. |

I know what you're getting at, Ian, but there are a couple of interesting points.
How do loan deals happen? Worthington is aways banging on to the press after our latest abject failure that he's been calling loads of managers and none of them are willing to let prospective targets out as they've got an injury crisis/know he'd just get injured at Norwich. I think managers do talk, but until any of us actually do the job we'll never know, which is why we should err on the side of caution and why the guidelines are what they are.
That said, I go with Michal's answer. The best way to work this is to scout the division. It's safe, realistic and doesn't put you in any grey areas.
The only major issue I'd really have with the original post is that any players, however identified, *must* be scouted before buying. It's then covered by the clause in the guidelines that wewak pointed out, if you ask me.

Interesting, maybe, discussion, of xure, but as has always been acknowledged on LLM, we don't have the facility to pick up the phone, or read some ethereal "recently freed players worldwide" list.
It's safer to keep the "scout players first" guideline in LLM otherwise the waters turn as muddy as if McKinley Morganfield took a wash in them.
Do as you see fit, but not in our pool...don't pĂ*ss in the water, iow.
Welcome to LLM btw, Brasilian bloke.

Well it's his game, if he thinks that's realistic .....
There are so many issues in the grey area or not completely realistic.
Eg You are PA is sending out faxes to announce transfer-listed and loanies. But I think she forgot to put paper in the machine as I never receive this kind of faxes from other clubs.
Also, do you really think that in real life they are going to sack the manager in charge just because you pass by and want to take charge of the club?
Again, I wouldn't sign player like that, but hey I am playing my game.

You will get the faxes from elsewhere.
