As I've mentioned previously, the forum header needs to be placed in a bold, huge font, and people should have to click through it in order to get to the forum itself. That would eliminate many of the problems with new arrivals breaking the rules.

They just don't know any better, because most people simply ignore any sort of text at the top of a web page and move on to what they're looking for, which, in this case, are the forum postings. But, if you make it impossible to ignore the forum header, then life will probably be a lot less volatile for all involved.

As it is now, the newbies inevitably break the rules without knowing them, and the backlash they receive drives them away or turns them against the potential benefits of LLM. Personally, I think there can be a better balance between the two extremes. I agree that there shouldn't be player naming, tipping, bragging, and that sort of thing on the forum. However, I have noticed that the discussions here have been pretty limited and boring over the past year or two.

I think it would be nice if there could be an unofficial topic or some way to bring the newbies on board and allow them to discuss a few tips or ideas in general terms, without polluting the rest of the LLM forum.

What do the mods think about this? What if we start an official newbie topic, where the new arrivals can get up to speed with the rules and maybe learn a few things about LLM before they dive into the LLaMa lifesytle completely?

If a thread for newbies was created under the current system, most would only ignore it, as they currently do with the sticky thread entitled "LLM Rules, Guidelines and Links - Please Read Before Posting".

AFAIK, we can't implement a "locked-door" system as you suggest having to plough through the guidelines under the current board system used by SI. If we could put custom code in, it would be possible.

you really need to check out a few of my recent posts in those "evil cheaters" forums. i dont take alot of what they say seriously.

i did have a read throught the rules, but i got bored. if there is a rul about not posting in those forums, a) i dont see the reason why not
but b) if you really want me to stop posting in them than i will

I'd have to agree with this, even though I've not been here long myself.

People don't seem to acknowledge the bold text (even though it obviously is the first thing you see here) so I can't imagine a thread for us "newbies" being noticed that frequently.

On another note it doesn't take much to avoid being "shot down" here. Just read the rules/notes like you would in most things and you'll have no trouble. Working for me right now anyway!

This is pretty indicative of the reason why a few of the LLaMas hame taken umbrage at your posts, Ash.

The Rules of the Forum are there for specific reasons, well explained in the Rules and Guidelines thread. If you read those rules and still don't understand why LLM and the two other Fora are mutually exclusive then we have a problem.

May I make a suggestion.

If you don't like this LLM forum, it's institutions, traditions and quirks, if you are convinced you have found a more pure way to worship the cult of the Llama. THEN BUGGER OFF AND START YOUR OWN FORUM! ALLOW YOUR RULES. You'll probably fail, in which case don't come running back to us seeking rebaptism in the sacred Llama water and take on our commandments. If you succeed, well congrats from us, but don't expect all of us to join.

au revoir.
P.S That solid pat you feel on your backside as you exit the forum, is infact the door hitting your bacxkside!
