To tell the truth, I thought the purpose of demos was to see if you like the new features and the general feel of it. Not "try to find the bugs in the game, and if you're lucky enough to find them, then don't buy it". If it's on the shelves, the company has a responsibility of making sure the most obvious bugs are eliminated.
Not taking a shot at SI, but the absolutely ridiculous excuse that the same people keep on giving. The idea that everyone would try out a demo of every game (especially a sequel) is laughable.

| At least the original poster is posting a complaint about an SI game in an SI forum. He has every right to voice his opinion.
You're posting complaints about him, saying that he should not speak up?
You should be the one to quiet down, in this situation.

No Greg, it's a simple thing these days.
If you're going to buy a PC game, you try the demo first. Basic logic. Complaining in this manner afterwards when you had the chance to try it out first is just daft.
| Don't want to sound like a smartarse but do keep in mind that some us are not on a DSL or broadband line and don't have the ability to do so, and yes there are some of us even that don't have access to the internet so a purchase through retail stores is the only method. Not trying to start an argument here, just pointing it out. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Everyone who has an interest in buying this game has access to a computer that is capable of good download speeds. Schools, Colleges, Libraries, Cafes - plenty of places to go to get what you need.
Say it costs 50p at a Café, that's still better than blindly buying a game.
In my time I've made many impulse buys without trying the demo, and sometimes the games have been absolutely awful to the point where I haven't even bothered looking to see if there's patches available for them.
The only game that I was actually angry about its release was Civilzation 4, quite simply the least stable game I've ever played. Not only did it take 1 and a half years before an update was made available that made it worth playing, they also charged £19.99 for it.
Did I act like a child about it? No, I did what I could to help and patiently waited for the patch. The first few patches made the game stable and playable, but it still didn't work anywhere near properly.
FM08 isn't even close to being like that. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Beg to differ. I derived loads of enjoyment from Civ4 right out of the box before it was patched. However, the same cannot be said of any in the FM series since CM4 for a whole host of reasons on their release day.
In fact, for FM2008, I have not touched it since the day I got it and I've slowly lost interest in it.

If SI releases a buggy game in 06, ppl complain and then they release patches to fix it, SI needs to learn from that experience, not the customers. SI needs to improve, or at least show initiative to improve. Customers can forgive you once or twice, but not always, not the third time. It is again the obligation of SI to ensure that their game contains minimum bugs or at least show that they have done everything possible to eliminate the bugs. Unfortunately they have not shown that in fm08, obvious bugs which could be spotted by a gamer in the 1st hour of play were left in the game (e.g. disallowed goals, closedown, no playing advantage etc etc)
| It's become standard in the gaming industry that very, very, very few games need not be patched out of the box. I can only think of a company that doesn't do that for their flagship series, but most others use patches to patch (pun intended) up their failings in QA.
Unfortunately, in this day and age, release dates are more important than QA. Quote:

Sales of FIFAM already exceed fm in Germany, Spain etc. This statement will be proved wrong in the foreseeable future if SI continues this attitude towards their game.
| I believe the sales spike is due to marketing. As much as I have issues with SI, they are the better of two devils when you put them with EA.

I've not loaded the programme since the day I bought it which was a couple of weeks ago, I think.
I've been playing only COH:OP and lately, Tabula Rasa.

| I see. Even though it is not too clear, it seems I messed up with the SI part, given that you have typed it in bold. So you mean to say someone else decided to ship it?
Well, for all practical purposes, the customer cares zero about the who part, all he cares is about the what part. At least that is what I was taught in college, and that is what I have experienced at work [ ]
