People with a complete ignorance of testing should refrain from commenting on it.
The closing down bug should not have passed testing. I am sure the testers would have found it during regression testing, but of course, SI decided to ship the game with a fault.

With the beta patch the flaw was corrected, but the updated beta patch has re-introduced the bug to an extent. So all in all the customers have a point to say they have been cheated to an extent, although all of us know that the problems will be fixed and we will get a great game, albeit a little late. Finally SI gave them a bug and that too a bug on a basic game feature, knowingly, which you can always shout about as a customer, no matter how many justifications SI would have had for releasing it with the bug.

And if the unthinkable happened, that is the closing down down bug was indeed undetected, then, with some knowledge of testing, I can say that the testing was inadequate. Because it is a basic game feature and not a scenario based bug. It has to be caught.

The other scenario based bugs, I agree, is not possible to catch in testing because the number of scenarios are huge and SI's testing team is nowhere as large as the number of people currently playing the game.

Honestly, I have never believed a company could give such a smug answer to a customer no matter how ill thought his rant is, or how unjustified his problems are.

Don't want to sound like a smartarse but do keep in mind that some us are not on a DSL or broadband line and don't have the ability to do so, and yes there are some of us even that don't have access to the internet so a purchase through retail stores is the only method. Not trying to start an argument here, just pointing it out.

I thought Actker was a tester and assumed he is an SI person. If not, of course he is not speaking for SI.

Everyone who has an interest in buying this game has access to a computer that is capable of good download speeds. Schools, Colleges, Libraries, Cafes - plenty of places to go to get what you need.

Say it costs 50p at a Café, that's still better than blindly buying a game.

In my time I've made many impulse buys without trying the demo, and sometimes the games have been absolutely awful to the point where I haven't even bothered looking to see if there's patches available for them.

The only game that I was actually angry about its release was Civilzation 4, quite simply the least stable game I've ever played. Not only did it take 1 and a half years before an update was made available that made it worth playing, they also charged £19.99 for it.

Did I act like a child about it? No, I did what I could to help and patiently waited for the patch. The first few patches made the game stable and playable, but it still didn't work anywhere near properly.

FM08 isn't even close to being like that.

I did not mean it regarding that particular issue. I was making that comment regarding the "try the demo before buying" suggestion.

I'd be amazed if someone doesn't at least know someone who has fast internet access to download the patch for them.

When I last had dial up and needed a big file like a patch downloading, I called my Mum and she'd download it, burn it on to a disc, and then post it to me.
