Hello mates. Kind of a FM newb here. Fired up the FM08 demo recenlty and was deeply impressed by its match engine, I've been waiting for something like that for like a decade now. But, you know, call me shallow or whatever, the presentation of this series that seemed to have all the glowing charme of an Excel spreadsheet never appealed to me. That is, until now.
To make it quick: I recently stumbled upon a news from July telling me that Sega'd release FM08 in Germany around Christmas. Apparently that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Or does it? Whatever the issues are, poor sales I could understand. Licence problems not so much. Heck, I'd probably edit all the leagues myself down to the fourth leage level.
I'm assuming some kind of German leagues ARE included in the international versions. The demo clearly has German teams and line-ups in it. Which are those leagues are? And how many league levels can there be in a given country anyway? Relegation matches, a possibilty? In any case, I jez don't get it why the game wouldn't see a release on this side of the pond. Issues like that or no.
I believe there's some sort of distribution issue with Germany, sadly, although I've heard it discussed before that a German language version of the game is released and can be imported from Austria/Switzerland. I'm from the UK though so its not affected me.
The German league systems are included, and one of my personal favorites. The game starts with the two Bundesliga and the Regionalliga North and South, then after the first season introduces the Third Division and the new Regional West.
There are some problems with the new teams that make the Regionals staying amatuer, meaning you cant pay your players, but I think it will be dealt with in the patch. All three Bundesliga work well.
I've not quite yet decided which manager to get, that new FIFA manager is getting positive feedback from sources I thought it wouldn't. I'm really into SI's attempt to simulate football, though, and snatching a copy from an import shop sounds like a good idea. I'm not far off the French border as well, so...
Apparentally there's a German language patch too, as silly as this may sound, I'm not familar with English football vocabulary all that much. That they've implemente the new Third divions sounds EXCELLENT, thoug apparentally there's also a bug that lets the amateur teams of first and second divions clubs promote to 2. Bundesliga. In reality there's a restriction for that.
Do you know if it's possible to implement the current fourth league level as well? Below the two Regionalligas there's ten(!) Amateur Oberligas at the moment..
Why is that? Is it because the number of leagues is too high? Or is it because of the relegation mode?
Well, according to Oktober from 2008/2009 on their is a fourth level with the then new-found Regionalliga. Wonder if it was possible to implement the relegation matches as well? These are going to make a comeback. I think there's going to be a face-off between the best team finishing a season in the drop zone and the last team finishing on a promotion slot a league below.
Anyway, found another skin via this board that also works for the demo and the game looks really slick now. Like that.I think I'll be taking a look from where I can place my orders soon... the digital version is only intended for certain areas, I gathered. Oh well.
This game appears to prove an entire industry dead wrong: It doesn't have fancy graphics, no explosions to speak of and it still sells like hotcakes. You've got to adore that.
My brother and cousin bought their copies from Ebay and they both live in Dusseldorf. There are plenty of copies on there and the shipping rated aren't too high. Just make sure you don't get a dodgy version!
After having done some more research I suspect that Sega just doesn't care enough about the German speaking markets to try to aquire the licenses. I mean, they could do that. It makes sense though: The FM series has always been a rather minor player in these territories, as far as I know, so..
On the other hand: What's keeping them from releasing the game in Germany with fake leagues, teams and players? Other (successful) football manager series have been doing that all the time. Maybe they feel that wouldn't be worth the effort, too..

The first topic you found details the issue. We care very much - however The German licenses are unavailable which makes a release a challenge, unfortunately. Particularly in the face of a very strong competitor that has the license, exclusively.
