Recently I found myself fiddling with additional tactics, so I went with a 3-5-2 setup. Opponent: The ever so popular 4-4-2. The plan for defense was to mark the opponent's two strikers with two of my defenders. There's an option that allows you to pick an opponent for each of your players each.
Thing is: For my left defender I could only pick the striker on the left side. For my right defender I could only pick the stricker on the right side. Eventually, as the match went underway, each time the opponent got ahold of the ball and my two defenders marked their opponents, they switched positions: The left defender ran to the other side to mark the opponents left striker, the right defender ran to the left side to mark the opponents right striker. Which means: Yes, they constantly swapped their positions indeed. And this happened all over the game so I had to turn it off. No idea why I was given those options only, as far as marking opposing stikers is concerned.
You would need to select a neutral player for one defender, then switch around that way.
So, select left defender to mark, say, a central mid. Then select right defender to mark left forward, and go back to left defender and select him to mark the right forward.
Go to man mark in the player instruction menu for your DCs and instead of clicking on the option given, there will be a drop down menu with all the opposition players- click on the correct one there.
Uh, NOT! 'scuse me, my fault. The correct striker would appear at the top of the list, not the bottom next to the other striker. The list IS arranged in such a way that it lists players by position, so, meh, my fault.
