Sorry if this has already been discussed..
I read a lot about the 1-on-1 poor conversion rating, and i agree that is something needing tuning but...
..but another thing make me angry, and i think is a misconcept needing to be improved. I started in the italian lowest league playable (c2), and now i am in c1 (gained a promotion). In 2 season i had the same problem against defensive team: they keep possession for 60 -65 % of time, and this is absurd, because:
1) only good teams with very good players can retain possession so long.. closing down and preventing easy passes is a think ALL players can do, passing perfectly the ball instead no.. In fm it seems easier make perfect passes and control the ball with no effort than closing down and force opponent to clear the ball
2) a team with a defensive mentality IRL let the opponent keeping possession and try a counter attack stealing the ball when many opponent players are out of position... when you see IRL a possession of 60%, it is EVER the attacking team.
Sorry for my english, but i think this is something to improve.
happy new year to all
Oh, i forgot something..
If i try to close down more often, or if i use hard tackling, etc.. i simply receive much more yellow / red cards but no improvement in possession time..

NO.
In fm08 the team play ultra-defensive tactic can easily keep 55%+ possession by passing the ball around their own half (or even penalty area).
No matter how hard you press them they can still passing calmly like barcelona even they are just some 3rd division no name team.
This is another unrealistic thing SI better have a look for 8.0.2.
I think you need to look ath the acton zones. I often have this problem too as sides just pass the ball around in their own half. I have to change my closing down instructions when this happens.
