Has anyone noticed a big difference between scouting in FM07 and FM08? (I have the 8.01 patch).

I feel like in FM07, I could send players anywhere in the world and they would come back with some reports. They wouldn't always be great, for example sending a scout with no knowledge of Japan and going to Japan, I would get maybe five carpy reports. All well and good.

In 08, I struggle to get quality reports from anywhere at all. I am, incidentally, coaching a Premiership club that I've promoted from the depths, so perhaps the reputation is still low. Let's say I hire an Italian scout (100% knowledge of Italy), with 15/15 for PA/CA. I send him to Italy, and he comes back with 30-odd reports. I also made sure to have him scout the Serie A, and he came with no reports in two years! Even worse was the scout with better stats and 100% knowledge of Portugal, who came back from Portugal with no assignments.

I like how in FM07, I got reports about pretty much every key player. What gives? It's the same deal with Champs League and UEFA. I assigned two scouts to scout them, and they still hadn't filed any reports after 18 months. I haven't had this problem scouting English competitions, say the League Cup and FA cup. There, the scouts file 6 or 7 reports every matchday. What am I missing?

Is there a trick to scouting? Are there other stats I should be looking at?

I can only imagine you are playing with a small database,meaning only the top players are in the game and your scouts won't bother recommending them because they won't be interested in signing for you.

If not then I don't know, I always get lots of reports regardless of my scouts abilitly and knowledge.

I've just started having this problem. I'm in 2028 and have never had a problem but I just went to scout a couple of places and haven't had a report back. I've resigned from that club now but the scouts there went 6months or so without a report.
