Have you noticed though....Liverpool have won the youth cup for the last 2 seasons and they have a very talented youth squad....Spearing, Threlfall, Lindfield plus lots of others. Yet, on FM there youth players are really poor. Very low CA and PA and there stats are shockingly bad. Yet, if you look at Man Utd, who Liverpool completely out played in both legs of the youth cup final, have a very good youth team, very high PA and very good stats. Its complete rubbish and the youth system on FM is crap!

Always! In earlier round cup games I try to play a full team of youth players with one older hand as captain. In league games I always try to include at least 2 under 20's. This can affect fan confidence (re youth signings) but I persist with them and if by the end of the second season they haven't improved despite a decent amount of games I let them go.

I also try to only buy players under 24 with the odd bigger signing (very few and far between) to keep the board happy.

But this is perhaps based on life as Liverpool youth system has been labelled as brilliant for years yet we consistently see their youth products drop down the leagues.

Neil Mellor at Preston now, Otsemobor (sp) etc etc. There a few Liverpool youth products in the Premiership, despite performing well at youth level.

Whereas Utd have Healy, Spector, Richardson, Butt, P. Neville etc etc playing in the top flight.

Of course Liverpool have brought through top talent like Owen, Gerard and Carragher but they are not as plentifull as their youth success would have had us believe.

I can only agree with you, but i think if Liverpool had the same manager, a British manager at that, at the club for 20+ years, i am sure you would see a lot more youth home grown players coming through. Mellor has never been good and should of been off loaded a lot earlier than he was. Healy, Spector & Richardson....could you not of found better examples than those 3? Healy at Int. level is awesome, but in the Prem...way out of his depth. He couldn't buy a goal at Leeds! Spector is rubbish and isn't even a regular and as or Richardson...how that waste of oxygen ever got in the England squad is beyond me. And...where are all the young British stars now for United? Taggart played a whole bunch and they got battered by Coventry.....obviously Taggart doesn't think that highly of the youth squad now at United, that's why he has bought Nani, Anderson, Tevez, Vidic etc. The likes of Giggs, Beckham, Scholes and co was a one off....and will not happen again! But, after all that, i do agree with you, but i still think the game favours the youth team at Old Trafford, more than at Anfield.

Yes I do, usually in the Carling Cup, doing a Wenger I think is the techincal term for it, or games I think should be guarenteed wins - usually home games against relegation strugglers - or games which don't matter - Champions League games after I've already qualified/pointless European games such as the Euro Super Cup, or whatever its called or that Fifa World Club Cup thing.

But only players I think will 'make it' so to speak will play, these are usually the players who are doing well in the Under 18s or Reserve sides.

Doing all that gives the youth players a better chance of becoming valuable players to your club in the future.

They aren't the best players I agree but the point is that they remain in the Premiership whilst Liverpool's do not. They are not top four quality but are premiership quality.

As for it not happening again, I agree it won't happen in the way it did but it has continued to happen. Wes Brown, John O'Shea, Darren Fletcher, Chris Eagles, Jonny Evans, Phil Bardsley, Lee Martin, Fabien Brandy and Danny Simspon all British not to mention Gerard Pique and Rossi who was sold for £7mil.

All products of the Man Utd youth academy and all linked with Premiership moves.

It is because of this surely that the game "favours" the Old Trafford youth team.

All of the above but for Martin, Brandy and Rossi have played for Utd this season. Can anyone name 5 Liverpool youth players who have appeared this season other than the stalwarts.

I'm not turning this into a Pool v Utd debate it just seems sensible that the game would rate the Utd player higher.

P.S. David Healy is a God as I am a Norn Iron man and regards his time at Leeds, he was rarely played by idiot Wise who was told off by us NI fans at the Spain match in which Healy scored a hat trick. Next week Wise picked him and he scored something like 8 in his next 13.

Out of his depth in the prem seems a little over the top given that Fulham fans were chanting for him to play in the past two fixtures. He must be doing something right.

I always note the best youth players ... and when my 1st team lads are injured, suspender, or ineligible ... I select the best youth players for the subs bench ... and in the 80th minute introduce them on the pitch ... it's not something ... but playing at AC Milan, the youth players are ... good ... one of them it's hard for me to give you advices, because you play at a small team ... at Milan I don't have problems with the transfer budget or the wage budget ...
