Default Are you enjoying playing '08?

Well, I was debating whether to post this, but once I read thru Powermonger's thread about understanding tactics, I decided to give it a go. I am sure some of you are going to call the whambulance (whaaaaa!). Go right ahead. I may deserve it.

Right. I have been playing since '07 version. Love the game. Pretty much the only game I play.

I have had success with '07 and '08. Won the treble, promoted teams, blah blah blah. So, I am not a complete moron (most of the time ).

But I am finding '08's match engine/moral/tactical implementation/teamtalks to be...for lack of a better word...frustrating.

My issue is that I want "games" to be fun. I spend a lot (way too much) of time creating tactics, finding players, etc. Yet, for way too much of the time imo, I find myself not having a whole lot of fun playing '08.

That...is frustrating.

So, I ask, whether you are world class, successful, treading water or sinking like a stone with this match engine, are you enjoying playing this game?

I'd rather a pick up, chose your tactic and try get quick success. Now I have to spend hours upon hours of getting tactics one click right to actually score a goal.

Am I enjoying it? No but it can be a great game if one on ones and spanish reg. bug ewas fixed, plus its the only game I really have got, so I may aswell play it.

Tactics are over-rated. I've run the default 442 since day one and currently on a 12 season "won everything" streak with Spurs and England.

I wouldn't say it's fun. But then FM hasn't been fun for about five years. I play it because I don't need the sound on, nor do I need to concentrate. I just watch TV or browse the net and bang continue now and then.

Yes I realise that this sounds stupid, playing something that isn't fun. But I love football and FM (well, CM) used to be fun. So I want it to be again. And after 16 years to just stop playing would be weird.

Good thread this, I agree with Jablome and Number 7.

The game can sometimes feel tiring, its as if theres too much to do between playing games, personally i don't even bother with "Opposition Instructions", I'm not one to complain mind.

I like the simple things like tactics, formation and Play.

But the extra's do hold a lot of gems, i'm absolutely loving the scout missions. You find a scout and send him on an assignment and he finds you an 18 year old Spanish player with ratings already as good as as the leading goalscorer in the Championship... You are the catalyst of his career!

I don't tend to talk to the press too much, that can get rather annoying but as i say, you adust to finer details on the games. I don't find it as addictive as the previous FM's.

However I'm not a serious gamer, in fact FM08 is the only game i currently own and play.

Actually, Absent FM is right, the extras are great. That, tbh, is my favorite part of the game. Finding players, signings, scouting, etc.

VonBlade: You just made my point about creating tactics. Maybe I will just try it your way, but that is kinda...frustrating.

Good Lord you are right! That is pretty funny. Oh well, I guess there are a lot of folks out there that have the same questions on their minds. So, what's one more thread about the joy/despair of '08?
