Default The reappearance of an old unwelcome friend...

Well I had FM08 for christmas and have put in a good few hours playing it since. I have generaly quite enjoyed it, however it seems that there has been a re-occurence of one of the traits that has annoyed me since the 2d match engine was introduced, namely that almost all the goals are being scored by strikers in games.

This plagued CM4 to a ridiculous extent as some of you may remember; I frequently had strikers getting 50 goals a season on that version of the game. Gradually though the match engine has been improved culminating in FM07 which was a joy to play. Sure it had a few glitches, like wingers practically never cutting in and youd be lucky if one of your full bakcs scored from open play in a seaaon but nonetheless, there was a far more even distribution of goals throughout the team.

Now we come to FM08. So far I have played 13 games with Cardiff scoring a healthy 25 goals. Shockingly only 1 of these goals has come from someone other than McLean and Fowler, and that was from a header following a corner. The main problem seems to be that the vast majority of goals come from breakaways; that and the fact that whenever anyone apart from my strikers has a chance they belt it wide or pass it back to the keeper. Its a shame because I find that it makes the game so unrealistic.

Anyone else noticing this problem or is it just me?

I think it's just a strange coincidence in your game. My DC and captain is leading my squad in goals with my strikers 2nd and third, tied there with an MC.

I've also found that my goals come more often from passing the ball around and finding an open player than from breakaways.

i would say it ranges for me from game to game when i managed arsenal edabayor scored 35 goals in the league i do believe and only played 36 games but with aston villa it was something like 20 goals for carew and most of my midfeilders had around 10ish.

Hmm thats odd, maybe it will right itself in due course. I just foun it strange because my tactics arent exactly set up for quick counterattacking football, I narrow, slow tempo, through the middle football and neither of my strikers has a pace stat above 10! I'll just have to see what happens in future.

yeah, i think its just a coincidence for you

i normally have a healthy spread between my team with the defenders chipping in a few

however, my defensive mids never tend to score a lot
