A long time reader of the tactics forum, very little poster. I first want to thank everyone here who creates tactics, or goes into discussions about certain tactics, and hats off to Cleon for some absolutely fantastic posts that provide plenty of things to think about.
Right, I created a tactic here that I'm calling "Review WCW Thunder", and please be advised that this is a work in progress, so I'm calling this V0.5 at the moment, as I still think it has a ways to go. I'm posting it here so I can work on it and track my work, and also to get feedback from everyone to hopefully make it even better I'm in the 3rd season and manager of Everton(8th&6th in last two seasons), and after two bad opening games with a generic 4-4-2 that was doing well, I decided to reinvent the wheel and start with a new tactic. Here is the tactic I have went with:
The only real key to this tactic is you must have a good attacking midfielder, ala Tim Cahill. I've been utilizing him as my target man at the moment and he has been doing absolutely brilliant. This is in my opinion, a good defensive tactic with strong attacking options, that is also very versatile(especially as you can switch the DMC to a striker and not lose much in defense etc). I'll keep this thread updated with my results & changes, and would love to hear all your reports on this too. The only thing you must remember is your target man should be the central midfielder.
And just SOME of the things on my list of stuff to look into as I evolve this tactic:
Targetman as Playmaker also: From reading the forums I think it's inconclusive as to whether this will be a positive or a negative, and will be trying it out when I can.
Marking: My players are on zonal at the moment, but I think the defenders and DMCs could possibly switch to man marking, as I had good results doing that in two games, completely locking out Tottenham and Newcastle, with the latter playing a 3-5-2 but their midfield was totally shut down.
Wingers: Still tinkering with them, they may be able to drop back.
Fullbacks: Might be able to switch up to wingbacks, or at the very least have a farrow.
DMCs: These are my #1 priority at the moment, as I think that they should be able to join the attack and keep the ball up there, as well as stop the oppositions midfield. They're kind of mixed at the moment, so I'll be playing around with that to see if I can get something sorted. Now if only Guarins work permit would come through grrrrr!
That's it for now. Remember, targetman = the midfielder, and he is a crucial part of this tactic. Also be sure to go through the player instructions obviously and tweak it to your players. Would love any feedback on this!
This is a gr8 tactic, unbeaten in 9 matches with arsenal and 7 matches with bolton.
Neither team had any new addtions.
Have started to fiddle with player instructions, to increase team possession.
Thanks for tactic.
