It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Hereford United tactic (won 8 in 11 games in PL after successive promotions from L2)

Thought I'd share a tactic set I'm having success with at the moment. Any guru's out there with tips you are more than welcome.

I use two base versions.

HOME - 4-2-1-3 (basically a 424)
AWAY - 4-2-2-2 (similar to 442)

HOME
This is designed to be as attacking as possible. I want as many players in the away sides half as is sensible. My target man Schumacher drops to AM to provide the link between midfield and attack. Right FC is the target man, left is the pacey support striker. Schumancher is very fast so maybe this works better with someone with a bit of pace aswell as strength and heading ability. Instead of CM's I play DM's with farrows. FR and FL have barrows to midfield. As for Team Inst, I base it on scout reports. Counter Atttack is ticked always because I know alot of teams are willing to attack me.

AWAY
Same instructions, but the wingers play in a more conservative position with barrows to ML/MR respectivley.

Here's my record with Hereford using these tactics, although I only started to really develop it in the CCC when I had decent enough players.

1st Season [ predicted finish 24th ]
No transfer budget, poor facilities, poor squad. Was just finding my feet at this level but wasn't too disappointed
Final position: 21st in League Two (W12 D12 L22 Pts 48)

2nd Season [ predicted finish 24th ]
Brought in some players on frees, no major changes to squad quality just depth
Final position: 7th in League Two, PROMOTED via playoffs (W18 D15 L13 Pts 69)

3rd Season [ predicted finish 24th ]
Had nothing to spend as usual, and again only stuck with frees. This time raided the lower league Italian and Spanish market.

Squad quality was average

Final position: 2nd in League One, PROMOTED (W24 D10 L12 Pts 82)

4th Season [ predicted finish 24th ]
Signed out of contract reserves from Championship/Premiership sides and kids from Eastern Europe. Struggled to attract

players that could be considered standouts at this level except maybe Csaba Pap (regen). Overall, a lower to midtable side

Final position: 1st in Championship, PROMOTED (W26 D18 L2 Pts 96) *finished unbeaten at home, conceeding just 10 in 23 and

29 overall*

5th Season [ predicted finish 20th ]
Brought in frees again mainly from Italy and Spain plus some minor purchases. Had to pay 2.7mil compensation for one player so was limited after that buy. Overall I'd say the squad would be a lower mid table side, maybe even relegation candidates. The

players are by no means spectacular
Current Position: 2nd (W8 D0 L3 Pts 21) + still in all cups

Have tried it for a few games, and on the whole it seems pretty good. Have used the home tactic when away against smaller teams and works well. will keep testing

I'd love to know how you didn't concede many goals using this. I've conceded 10 in 4 games.

The home tactic seems to make my Portsmouth team play nicer football and it has improved my results but away from home we're awful. Got beat 5-1 by Everton in my last game.
