It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

I started to use the 4-1-4-1 but i found that i wasnt creating enough all round chances, evryone was just giving Henry the ball and he would just run at the defense. Although Henry was creating havok and still managed to score 4 goals againt Blackburn, i dont want to rellie on him to score all my goals because if he gets injured im screwed.

I have now changed to a 4-4-2 but am considering using a diamond version.

I have also noticed from my scout reports that most of the teams in the premier league have fast strikers and a hard working technical midfield. So if i can set up the defense to compensate for that then i will have my defensive template that i can work from.

From reading the scout report i know that i have to play deep but how deep.

I was thinking maybe if the fastest oppostition striker has acceleration of 16 and pace of 18 setting my defensive line to match his acceleration would stop him from getting past, because by the time he will not have much time to get to full speed as the defenders will allready be closing him down. This is just a thought and it might not work so i need to know peoples thoughts.

I usually play with barrows on my fullbacks which seems to stop them getting the ball behind the defence, also i haver my defensive line on 2. This way i only conceded 13 goals in the Serie A with AC Milan

Do you keep the defensive line set at 2 for every game?
Do you change the instuctions of the defense for every game or do you eave them the same and just tweek the rest of the team?

smithybulls, thanks for the tip.
I'm testing your setup with Inter and so far it looks pretty good. I will see how it goes for the rest of the season.

Always have my mentality set at 2 for centre backs and have them rarely closing down. The defensive line depends on the pace of their attack, if it is slow i will push up and play for the offside.

The fullbacks instructions are set to team and have them set to mixed for forward runs so that they are mainly concentrating on defence with the odd run forward
