For some reason no matter who i play with from Inter to parma in Italy after a good start to the season getting to top of the league scorring an average of 3 goals per game and conceeding 1 about every 3 games i suddenly start to leak goals and be incapable of scoring despite not doing anything to my squad or tactics, the players have superb morale and are all in excellent condition! Seems bizare that my team can go from 5-0 v Roma, 5-0 Lazio, 3-1 Milan and 3-1 Celtic to 0-2 Empoli, 0-1 Siena, 0-1 Cagliari!
Switch your formation. Doesnt matte which one. Just do something cosmetic but which the game consideres a different formation. Ie droping one CM to DM.
It happened because the formation you have been using before has now appeared as your "favorite formation" in your manager profile so you play each game with some kind of an artifical penalty to simulate your tactics have been "hacked".
Entirely unrealistic if you ask me, but this is the proven cause of such slumps 100% certain.
Could it be that you do not rotate your squad enough. Players get jaded if they play every game. This has an affect on how good your team play.
I disagree with Maooam about the prefered formation. This is just cosmetic. Every Manager in the game has a prefered formation. There is no artifical penalty.
Proof? The guy went from 5-0 v Roma, 5-0 Lazio, 3-1 Milan and 3-1 Celtic to 0-2 Empoli, 0-1 Siena, 0-1 Cagliari and you think its down to player rotation? Laughable. If the players are jaded the jade icons will appear. Hes hardly a simpleton not to notice them.

This is not true, a player will only show the jaded icon when this gets really bad, resting the player for a game will reduce his jadedness.
Do you notice also that he beat really big teams but lost to smaller teams?
Im not saying it it down to players being jaded, but it is possible.

ive found reducing training intensity, especially physical, and increasing mental sliders eg attacking, tactic etc works, and seldom drop points with lancaster in the prem. oh yea squad rotation a la sir alex ferguson is a good start as well.
Leroy, with respect how can you ask for proof from Maoom for his theory when you also give a theory but supply no proof yourself?!
His proof is (like yours) is narrative-it is an effect he has seen and tried to explain from his own experience.
There is no (or very little) 'proof' about this game-all the 'gurus' do is try something-if it works they consider it 'a Rule' and if it doesn't they assign it to the bin.
For my theory, I'm guessing that he is playing a good counter-attacking formation with a good team. Against the big teams he is solid and winning from counters. This won't work against small teams who are in fact countering his counter.
Maoom, a 'trick' that I have tried is setting up your formation before the game as you intend to play it (e.g. for 442-all players in right position) and before actually 'going to game' chnage this to 4132 (or another standard formation), play the first five minutes of the game with this and then switch to your proper formation.
Does this work? (maybe)
Is it a rule? (certainly not)
Is it realistic (be serious!)
You are correct I have no proof that my theory is any more valid than Maoom's theory.
However, unlike Maooam, I did not state that my theory was 100% certain.

All I wanted to know was what was this 100% proof. I would be very interested as it would have a bearing on whether I wasted my time playing a game that had an artifical penalty to the human player.
My theory is just a possible solution for timm and others to try. I make no claim that it is correct.
Now I do not believe Maooam theory is correct for one minute, but if he is then I want to know why.
reduced my physical training, seems to have done the trick and slightly tweaked my formation to a more direct style of play seems to have worked.
Can the computer really 'hack' my formation and work out how to beat me cos that would be a lot more realistic than i have ever given football manager credit for!
Has anyone else ever encountered the mid season blues?

By itself this is of no use, imo. However there are players that belive this is a way to go around the penalty for the profile formation while stil continuing to use their preffered formation.
