It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Full back asists and overlaps

I am finding that either A) I am not very good at converting te possibilities in the tactics section to real life tactics or B) the are basic tactical maneuvres that are simply not possible to make in FM.

Here's what I wanna do:

I want to get both my full backs forward to get a lot of crosses into the area. Both my full backs have acceleration, pace and crossing of 17-20, they have forward runs and cross often turned on. This season I finished 5th in the Premier (with QPR) and scored 77 goals. Out of these my RB has 1 assist (in 32 games) and my LB has 0 assists (in 26 games).

Basically, they are never really near the oppositions penalty box.

What would I do if I want them to get more forward and overlap with my right/left midfielders?

And if I get them forward, overlapping on the flanks, is there a way I can have my defensive midfielder fall back and close the empty room depending on which fullback is going forward?

Hi Salinas,

What formation do you play?

I'm guessing that it is 4-4-2 as you mention MR/L.

You could try setting your MR/L forward runs to rarely. This should allow the fullback to bomb forward whilst still offering some protection to your flanks. Focus passing down the flanks is a given.

However I would suggest possibly changing your formation to get the most out of these wing wizards. 5-3-2 perhaps.

Actually, I'm playing a 4-1-2-1-2 with my two midfielders going up left and right with arrows. I would like both my two midfielders (they are actually more wingers than mc's) to keep going forward, but I do like to see my FB's getting forward once in a while as well.

I have also played the standard 4-4-2 but still finding it difficuelt to make my fullbacks dangerous on the offense.

I also found that DRLs don't assist nor score often, you should try giving them farrows, or setting cross from byline, playing wide

Ah the old 4-1-2-1-2.

In this formation the fullbacks are supposed to be used to provide the width, so I can see why you would want them to push forward.

I would play a DM, 2 MC in front and then an AMC or FC in the hole. You only really need the Fullbacks and the AMC to push forward to give the team balance.

Nice formation Salinas, I may give it a go when I get to the Prem, if ever

I just checked my fullbacks stats.

Darren Tedds 17 games 1 assist
Nathan Peat 17 games 3 assists
Dan Gleeson 19 games 3 assists.

I dont thinks thats too bad as I am playing a conventional 4-4-2.

Heres the stats for my wingers.

Ryan Beswick 19 games 9 assists
Loris Ghilgia 18 games 2 assists

I'm playing with the DM, two MC's (with arrows up and to the sides) and an AM C. Still, those two full backs with great attacktin stats and everything going forward, have been involved in a total of 1 goal out of 77 in the league. I am finding this frustrating - especially since the disadvantages of using the full backs in an attacking manor, are not missing: I am pretty often open to counter attacks down the flanks as I have send my two idiot FB's forward, where they're doing no good.

Why do you need the FWR on the MC?

2FC, 1AMC and 2FB balances with the 2MC, 2DC and DMC. A 5/5 split

Pushing the 2 MC up means you will be 3/7.

Let the midfield dictate the play and pass to the ball up to you advanced fullbacks who can cross the ball to create chances for you strikers.

Another point is, with this formation, the main attacking threat should be through the middle with a short passing game to the AMC Playmaker. The fullbacks are really the secondary option from wide. I would imagine the majority of goals will be set up through the center.

Give your DM 'hold up ball' option and do the same with your wingers. This gives the full backs chance to overlap. Your wingers still run at the opponent when they get the chance but you FB's shuld get involved more. Bare in min that if you use a quick tempo with direct passing, again, they wil not have time to get up the field and support the attack.

Hope this help.......works for me.

My full back has 12 assists in about 30 games this year That's only because he takes FKs and corners though. Put their arrows all the way up is all I can suggest
